Job Details

This is a great opportunity to join Wolverhampton's food testing pathogens laboratory. The purpose of this role is to analyse food samples for a given method using laboratory techniques to required quality standards.

This is a full-time role working 38.5 hours per week on a four on, four off rotational shift pattern: Week 1: 09:30 – 21:00; Week 2: 10:30 – 22:00. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Sub-culturing, plate reading, confirmations and validation of analytical results as required.
  • Conducting and recording Media QC, raising and documenting any non-conformances.
  • Run equipment required for analysis such as PCR, Pathatrix and ELISA.
  • Raise NCWs following any non-conformance, investigate root causes and implement actions to support continuous improvement.
  • Provide high levels of internal and external customer care by ensuring all results are delivered accurately and on time.
  • Ensure all appropriate paperwork is filled out daily.
  • Reporting of results in accordance with methods of analysis and customer requirements.
  • Maintain turnaround time at >99%, ensuring daily targets are achieved.
  • Familiar with laboratory FGS software; implement processes relating to sample/test data entry.
  • Highlight issues to the Line Leader/Team Leader.
  • Assist through operating best practice to meet UKAS accreditation standards.
  • Take responsibility for cleanliness and hygiene of the work area at all times; keep area clean and tidy.
  • Removal of waste following disposal guidelines.
  • Wear personal protective clothing/equipment in line with Health & Safety policy.
  • Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Knowledge of the Laboratory Quality Manual to ensure policy and procedure compliance.
  • Flexibly assist other departments as required.
Qualifications
  • Diploma/qualification in a relevant scientific subject area.
  • Experience in fast-paced production work is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of UKAS/ISO methods and microbiology laboratory processes is advantageous.
  • Experience working in a team.
  • Good organisation and time management.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate.
