Client: My client has established themselves as one of the UK’s premier M&E contractors. Following their formation almost 75 years ago, they have grown their turnover to over £200m per annum. The business boasts an envious track record of delivering some of the UK’s and London’s landmark projects. Typically they specialise in major shell and core projects in sectors such as; commercial offices, healthcare, pharmaceutical and education. Despite their size, this Tier 1 M&E Contractor has fantastic staff retention rates with a reputation for looking after their staff. They offer excellent exposure and internal training schemes with a hands-on approach to developing their staff.

Role: Mechanical Project Manager – London (Zone 1&2) – £400-£450 per day

The successful candidate will be overseeing flagship Commercial new build valued up to £30 million M&E package for one of the largest blue-chip businesses in the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing all elements of the defined Mechanical package, From design to delivery into service. Ensuring all aspects detailed in the precontract, contract governance, mobilisation, construction, delivery and handover sections are fully adhered to. Managing the relevant subcontractor, to ensure full compliance to these requirements.

  • Ensuring any contract notices including early warnings, as required under the NEC contract, are issued in a timely manner.

  • Promoting and delivering a collaborative environment throughout all members of the team including stakeholders and the supply chain. Establishing and maintaining site organisation and facilitate effective communications between the employer’s representatives.

  • Ensuring all reports and information defined in the SWI documentation, are issued in the time frames stipulated. This will include providing the necessary package narrative for client reports.

  • Leading on all aspects of the programme and production control process, associated with your package responsibility. Ensuring that the programme is maintained and where programme is slipping, advising the project lead in good time, so that appropriate action can be taken.

  • Taking part in decisions affecting cost and programme, such that issues are considered holistically for the good of the overall project.

  • Assisting in the preparation of all programmes, understanding critical path activities, system constraints and interdependencies.

  • Reviewing and commenting on all design information, to ensure it is buildable and commissionable.

  • Ensuring all works undertaken on site, are done so in a safe manner. Carrying out weekly health and safety tours and record all issues on Yellow Jacket.

  • Ensuring robust method statements, risk assessments are in place and approved, prior to commencement of any works.

  • Leading on all aspects of quality, associated with your package responsibility. Ensuring each handover date, or area completion is achieved snag-free. Ensure works are completed in time and include snagging clearance.

    The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5 years’ industry experience

  • Good general knowledge of building services engineering systems and their implementation.

  • Good communicator.

  • Competent in Health and Safety management.

  • Programme oriented.

  • Eye for quality.

  • Good organiser and able to implement systems.

  • Prepared to be innovative.

  • Ability to work on own initiative.

  • Ability to build relationships e.g. marketing relationships with external professionals and clients, strategic relationships with contractors and suppliers.

  • Develop and contribute strategic thinking at Project level.
