Job Title: Mechanical Construction Manager

Salary: £70,000 - £75,000 annual salary plus company package
Location: Cambridge

Company Description

A UK leading M&E Contractor are actively seeking a Mechanical Construction Manager for a major commerical office shell and core & fit out scheme in Cambridge. This design & build project is valued more than £50 million M&E and will begin on site later this year.

What we're looking for:

Candidates with a background in Construction/ Site Management for more than 3 years.
Previous employment with a Tier One M&E Contractor is favoured.
Strong track record of delivering commercial, healthcare or pharmaceutical schemes from pre-construction to completion
Career longevity and a desire to progress within a growing business

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership: Interpret and validate complex mechanical design drawings, specifications, and scopes of work (HVAC, chilled/hot water, domestic water, drainage).
Project Coordination: Liaise with design consultants, BIM/Revit/AutoCAD teams, and clients to resolve design clashes, ensure MEP coordination, and optimise installation strategies.
Value Engineering: Drive cost‑effective solutions through proactive value engineering workshops, material selection, and system performance enhancements.
On‑Site Delivery: Lead end‑to‑end installation of mechanical systems, from hand‑over of preconstruction deliverables through to final commissioning and Handover Quality Records (HQRs).
Subcontractor Management: Select, manage, and mentor specialist mechanical subcontractors; implement performance KPIs, conduct regular progress and quality audits, and enforce RAMS & CDM compliance.
Procurement & Logistics: Develop detailed material schedules, review technical submittals, and oversee the timely procurement and delivery of mechanical equipment and spares.
Risk & Issue Management: Proactively raise and track RFIs, Site Change Requests, and NCRs; lead weekly site coordination meetings to identify and mitigate schedule, budget, and technical risks.
Testing & Commissioning: Partner with commissioning teams to execute FATs/SATs, ductwork and pipework testing, AHU balancing, and final system performance verification against design intent.
Health, Safety & Compliance: Champion a zero‑accident culture-lead toolbox talks, enforce H&S policies (CDM 2015, COSHH), and ensure adherence to industry standards (BSRIA, CIBSE, BSR IA).
Continuous Improvement: Capture lessons learned, update best‑practice procedures, and integrate sustainability initiatives (LEED/BREEAM requirements, energy‑efficient plant).Skills & Experience

Mechanical Expertise: Deep understanding of HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, and specialist pumping systems within commercial and industrial environments.
Digital Proficiency: Competent in BIM coordination (Navisworks, Revit MEP), AutoCAD, and project management software (MS Project, Primavera P6).
Contract & Budget Control: Experienced with JCT/NEC contracts, variation management, cost reporting, and maintaining margin integrity.
Leadership & Communication: Strong stakeholder management skills-able to negotiate, influence, and maintain client relationships at senior levels.
Quality Assurance: Proven track record in delivering projects to ISO 9001 standards with thorough inspection and test planning (ITPs) and Handover Quality Records.
Health & Safety: Comprehensive knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations, risk assessment methodologies, and site welfare requirements.
Sustainability & Innovation: Familiar with green building certifications (LEED/BREEAM) and energy‑efficient plant design principles
