This Position reports to:

Electrical Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in high voltage substation design, including both air-insulated (AIS) and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). This role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and the ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion.

As a Lead Electrical Engineer within Process Automation Energy Industries you will have the opportunity to act as the technical lead on projects within a dynamic team covering a wide variety of industry including renewables (Wind/H2/Hydro), Oil Gas & Chemicals and Power-to-X. Each day, you will ensure the activities related to all engineering disciplines within your area of responsibility are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by acting as a design authority for the electrical engineering discipline.

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact.

Work model: hybrid from ABB Aberdeen, St Neots or Warrington {}
Leading the design and implementation of eHouse, Substation, MV/HV/EHV AIS & GIS Switchgear (up to 400kV), Step up/down transformers, and Protection.
Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure project success, manage timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, and conduct risk assessments with mitigation strategies.
Acting as Electrical TA and providing technical support and troubleshooting during project execution, prepare detailed project documentation, and conduct HAZOP and EHAZOP workshops.
Installation and grid code compliance, including leading power system studies, with a proven track record of leading large projects and coordinating with multiple parties.
Provide technical expertise in the areas of power distribution, protection, and control systems.
Oversee the preparation of detailed engineering reports, plans, and specifications.
Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, and technical evaluations.
Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff.
Participate in project management activities, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Develop and maintain client relationships, and assist with marketing and business development efforts

Qualifications For The Role

Experience in the Energy industry, particularly in power generation, transmission, or distribution.
Masters or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Chartered Electrical Engineer or working towards this status.
Significant experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on high voltage substation
design.
Proficiency in electrical design software and tools.
A collaborative, solution-focused approach, and strong written and spoken communication skills.
Strong English Language skills
Ability to plan and prioritise workload.
Ability to demonstrate the importance of commercial awareness
