Position: Lab Technician / Research Associate


Background: Degree in a biology or chemistry-related subject and some relevant lab experience


Location: Kingston upon Thames, London, England

Starting: ASAP


Genetic Microdevices Ltd. offers the opportunity for a technician / junior researcher to work with an exciting technology for biological analysis and molecular diagnostics, based on a proprietary microfluidic chip.


The company is seeking an inspired individual whose responsibilities will include:


· Design and execution of runs with our proprietary state-of-the-art instrument

· Assessment of the performance of our prototype instrument, proposing improvements

· Fabrication of intricate microfluidic devices based on the existing protocol and

· Devising improvements to that protocol in collaboration with the team.


This is an interdisciplinary position that requires a combination of skills. The candidate is not required to have all the skills listed below; however, he/she will be expected to have deep knowledge of some of these areas of expertise and a keen desire to learn the others.


Suitable skills are:

· Good wet-lab experience, especially with analytical techniques such as electrophoresis

· Biochemistry / molecular biology background and good confidence in handling chemicals

· Basic understanding of electronics and circuits

· Fluent in usage of computers and a moderate programming ability, preferably in C++, would be an advantage

· Microfluidic device fabrication a plus


As this is a very hands-on job, the candidate will be expected to have excellent experimental skills and careful attention to detail. In addition, important traits include the ability to work collaboratively in a team, to perform experiments with a highly systematic approach and to demonstrate research initiative. Attendance and puctuality are key traits for smooth operation of the team.


The company is located in Southwest London and collaborates with leading UK institutions such as

Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCL.
