The Role

This position offers an exciting opportunity to oversee the operations of newly created, state-of-the-art teaching laboratories and makerspaces dedicated to chemistry, biology, physics, and design. The successful candidate will ensure these facilities are fit for purpose, well-equipped, and meet the highest safety and regulatory standards in preparation for teaching activities starting September 2025.

Key responsibilities include:

• Launching and managing multiple teaching laboratories and makerspaces.
• Leading a new team of technicians.
• Budget and resource planning.
• Procurement and inventory management for equipment and consumables.
• Establishing and maintaining health and safety protocols.
• Supporting teaching and student research activities.

This role may involve occasional international travel for alignment with global institutional standards.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

• Proven experience managing multi-user laboratory facilities in higher education.
• Teaching experience 
• Ability to lead and coordinate a diverse technical team.
• Expertise in health and safety documentation related to laboratory operations.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills with experience in strategic project management.
• Budget management, resourcing, and procurement experience.
• Proficiency in IT systems and technology integration for teaching and learning.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.

Desirable Criteria:

• Professional accreditation (e.g., IST or Science Council membership).
• Safety officer certifications (e.g., biological or chemical safety).
• IOSH or NEBOSH certifications.
