Job Description:
MORE THAN YOU EXPECTED.
Grant Thornton UK LLP is part of a global network of independent audit, tax, and advisory firms, with around 58,000 people across 135 countries. We prioritize quality, inclusion, and integrity, and aim to provide our clients with a unique, comprehensive experience. Our teams support businesses and communities daily to do what is right and achieve their goals. We are also flexible, supporting work-life balance through options like reduced hours and job shares.
NEW GROUND WON’T BREAK ITSELF.
Recent trends show a shift from direct to indirect taxation globally, with rising VAT rates despite decreasing corporation tax rates. Businesses face complex VAT systems, case law, guidance, and legislation, especially when entering new markets or joining international supply chains. Our clients range from FTSE 100 companies to entrepreneurial owner-managed businesses across various sectors including consumer, pharmaceutical, healthcare, financial services, insurance, not-for-profit, education, land, and property.
A look into the role
As an Associate Director in our Indirect Tax team, you will:
Manage the scope, delivery, and billing of client projects, providing high-quality technical advice to a diverse client base.
Guide junior staff in research and work production, supporting Directors and Partners.
Provide accurate advice on Indirect Tax matters, grounded in legislation, case law, and technical analysis.
Communicate complex technical issues clearly, tailoring your style to different stakeholders.
Create technical work that requires minimal review, effectively conveying key points to clients and stakeholders.
Review team members' work for quality and accuracy.
Ensure compliance with the firm’s risk management processes throughout project lifecycles.
Manage financial aspects like billing, gross margin, utilization, and WIP.
Knowing you’re right for us
To join as an Indirect Tax Associate Director, you should have experience in VAT/Indirect Taxes, possibly from advisory or in-house roles, and hold relevant qualifications like CTA or ATT. Additional desirable skills include:
Managing a large and varied portfolio of indirect/VAT clients.
Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills to build long-term relationships.
Leadership in cross-disciplinary teams.
Experience advising on complex indirect tax issues across sectors.
Knowing we’re right for you
We value diversity and inclusivity, fostering a culture where everyone can perform at their best. Our open culture encourages interaction with leaders who value your contributions. We support bringing your whole self to work and pursuing passions both inside and outside of work.
Beyond the job
We recognize that life extends beyond work. We offer flexible working options, including a hybrid model with two days in the office, to help maintain work-life balance. Your impact can extend beyond your role, through opportunities like secondments, charity work, and supporting entrepreneurs globally. Our values—purposefully driven, curious, and candid but kind—guide us. We seek individuals eager to contribute, innovate, and do what’s right for the firm, clients, colleagues, and themselves. That’s how it should be.
