We achieve this by combining Ai machine learning imaging biomarker analysis, together with centralised neuroimaging CRO services to provide an integrated service covering every stage of clinical development through to post-marketing surveillance. We are committed to invest in continuously enhancing our validated and peer reviewed disease optimised machine learning Ai analytics services and our infrastructure and technology to support our ambitious growth strategy. Our people are empowered to enable us to achieve our company goals and their own personal development through the “4A” values at the heart of our culture: Aspiration, Ability, Agility and Accountability.

To help us deliver our medical image analysis solutions to large clinical trials we are hiring aImaging Scientist (R&D ML specialist)on a permanent full-time capacity.

Purpose of the Role:

The purpose of this role is the development of imaging analysis solutions to address clinical trial needs and IXICO’s long term strategic aims. This role will have a specialised focus in the development and application of machine learning to deliver robust, product-ready analysis solutions.

You will be responsible for building advanced image analysis pipelines—ranging from segmentation algorithms to clinical classification and predictive modelling—designed for use in real-world clinical settings. This involves collaborative scoping of new solutions through interaction with internal and external stakeholders, pro-active input into the development plan and execution of the development plan to assure timely completion and deployment where needed.

In addition to delivering production-ready tools, the job holder will actively lead and contribute to applied Research and Development (R&D) initiatives. These initiatives range from early-stage prototyping to proof-of-concept studies, leveraging machine learning across tasks such as tissue and region segmentation, disease classification, patient stratification, and outcome prediction. These R&D efforts will feed into the innovation pipeline, informing future products and capabilities aligned with strategic goals.

The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Biomarker Science, Operations, and Technology to ensure that novel approaches are rigorously validated and appropriately transitioned from experimental stages to operational solutions. The job holder will also manage internal and externally sponsored R&D projects as required, including retrospective data analyses and exploratory scientific investigations.

Depending on seniority, the individual may also define, assign, and oversee sub-tasks across the Imaging Science team to support the successful delivery of analysis and R&D workstreams. A strong background in machine learning applied to medical imaging is essential, with experience across diverse modelling approaches. Demonstrated success in delivering parcellation, classification, or prognostic models—particularly using deep learning on MRI or multimodal feature sets—is highly desirable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of analytics solutions:
  • Engage with internal project teams and/or project partners as necessary to define requirements for analysis solutions.
  • Identify and recommend appropriate technical approaches to streamline project planning and delivery.
  • Design development, validation, and roll-out plans to meet technical and quality standards.
  • Ensure timely completion of development plans, validation, and associated documentation.
  • Contribute technical descriptions of analytics solutions to proposals, charters, study documents, and marketing materials.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure comprehensive documentation and seamless handover to deployment teams.

  • Data analysis and reporting:
  • Perform analysis of imaging dataset with novel biomarkers, generating reports that summarise insights.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate analysis methodologies and image viewing tools.
  • Integrate, test, and validate external analytical tools and applications for use in new workflows.

  • Research and Development:
  • Stay current with advancements in machine learning, neuroimaging, and related fields.
  • Contribute to the strategic R&D roadmap by developing new project proposals and reviewing planned initiatives.
  • Conduct stage-gated feasibility studies and prototyping to inform future product and solution development.
  • Lead and manage contracted research projects, ensuring delivery to timelines and quality standards.
  • Define and assign tasks to junior team members; oversee execution of pipeline development, data QC, and data management activities.

  • External Scientific Communication:
  • Identify relevant topics for external scientific communication aligned with R&D activities.
  • Prepare and present scientific abstracts and findings at key industry conferences.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing to develop scientific content for IXICO’s website and marketing channels.

  • Internal support and development:
  • Provide support for ongoing clinical trials, troubleshooting issues, and provide expert guidance to address or support others in addressing analysis issues.
  • Contribute and support to project proposals for the strategic roadmap based on scientific advancements and/or business opportunity
  • Support scientific leadership on subject area for all business-related needs such as internal planning and external communications

Qualifications and skills required for the role:

Essential

  • University qualification in a scientific or analytical discipline (e.g. Neuroscience, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Engineering, Mathematics, etc).
  • Doctorate in a relevant subject or comparable research/industry experience and a track record of relevant publications.
