Job Summary

This post is fixed term for 9 months.

The post-holder will be obliged to participate in our seven day medicines supply service in line with the hours of operation.

Main duties of the job

Will participate in the medicines management 7-day supply service. The post holder will focus on delivering quality care to service users through the implementation of an efficient medicines management system, and in delivering the medicines optimisation strategy. The post holder will provide a service with a particular emphasis on the technical aspects of medicines management including dispensing, final accuracy checking, issuing and stock control of medicines, as well as medicines safety, supply and audit work. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly in line with the hours of operation.

To accurately and efficiently supply medication within Mersey Cares frameworks.2.To dispense and/or final accuracy check medicines, including high risk medicines, including cytotoxic medicines, clinical trial medicines, controlled drugs and unlicensed medicines, in accordance with departmental, regional and national standard operating procedures.3.To support monitoring the use of controlled drugs and highlight any concerns to the CDAO.4.To ensure that medication is dispensed, and final accuracy checked to meet agreed delivery times, and to minimise waiting times.5.Where appropriate, to prioritise prescriptions in line with departmental procedures, ensuring that ward/clinic staff are informed of any delay.6.To dispense and/or final accuracy check compliance aids, including blister packs, in line with departmental procedures.7.To provide technical information relating to medicines management services to doctors, nurses and other health professionals.8.To provide advice to service users and/or carers about medicines in an understandable and sympathetic manner.9.To liaise with relevant staff with regard to prescription interventions, e.g., missing details or unclear prescriptions or medication out of stock.

Qualifications

Essential

NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services and BTEC level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science, or equivalent qualification with appropriate underpinning knowledge
Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician
Technical Accuracy Checking Qualification

Desirable

NVQ A1 workplace assessor (or willingness to work towards)
Relevant medicines management qualification or accreditation, or willingness to work towards; or equivalent experience
