Main duties of the job

Pharmaceutical services contribute to the Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) mission by the provision of a clinical and professional service at Medical Centre (MC) level. The post holder will be required to work across two Dispensaries in the Catterick Medical Centre (CMC) and the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) Catterick as part of a team of Pharmacy Technicians. The main location will be the CMC Catterick as part of a 3-4 person team rotating through the ITC Catterick as necessary. The post is unsupervised and requires the post holder to jointly manage the day to day running of the dispensary at CMC Catterick or ITC Catterick.
The post holder is responsible for delivering a consistently high-quality dispensary service and assists in the delivery of an effective medicines management service to entitled personnel within the multi-disciplinary medical centre and on behalf of the Senior Medical Officers.
The post holder will have knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training at National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) 3 level, supervising a technical area within the dispensary and knowledge of medicines management, including relevant legislation and policies acquired through National Vocational Qualification (NVQ 3) training.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:
Provision of a safe and accurate dispensing service to patients under the care of the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) and Defence Primary Healthcare.
Communicate professionally with medical and non-medical prescribers regarding any prescription anomalies, ambiguities or supply issues.
Housekeeping of the dispensary including stock checks, stock rotation and monitoring of time expiry drugs to minimise wastage as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Joint lead for the ordering and stock management of pharmaceuticals and sundries within the medical centre.

Person Specification

Registrations and Memberships

Registered or able to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Please provide your membership registration number. You are required to be registered with the relevant professional body, as detailed in the advert, prior to submitting your application. Experience

Practical experience to be able to operate in a singleton post. Plus other additional training for checking dispensed prescriptions without further reference.

Qualifications

National Vocational Qualification Level 3 Pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent. Degree, diploma or appropriate training as recognised by professional body (NMC/HCPC etc) in a relevant area.
