Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to over 1.15 million people, expanding to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

We invite applications from motivated candidates for the full-time Healthcare Support Worker position within the West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre (WoSSVC).


About the Centre:

The West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre (WOSSVC), located at Level 5, New Lister Building, Glasgow Royal Infirmary, offers comprehensive virology services. These include testing for hospital staff, primary care, and referrals to other health boards in Scotland.


Key Duties:


  • Preparing clinical specimens for analysis and disposing of clinical waste safely.
  • Registering patient information on Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Handling telephone queries from staff and external agencies.
  • Assisting Biomedical Scientists and performing specific laboratory tests as needed.


Qualifications and Experience:

Applicants should have:



  • 3 Highers at Grade C or above (including Chemistry or Biology and Maths),
  • SVQ3 in a relevant science subject,
  • Modern apprenticeship in life sciences,
  • or equivalent qualifications.


Experience in a clinical laboratory is desirable.


Additional Details:

This fixed-term role is funded until 31st March 2025, based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The role involves 37 hours per week, including days, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, with additional pay where applicable.
