Head of Medical Excellence - International - Mid-Sized Pharma

We are currently supporting a rapidly growing mid-sized biopharmaceutical organization in the rare disease space in their search for a Head of Medical Excellence for the Central & Eastern Europe, Russia, and Japan. This dynamic and expansive region spans 10 affiliates and 6 partner markets, from the Sea of Japan to the Adriatic Sea.

This is a unique opportunity to lead medical excellence activities across diverse geographies and therapy areas, enhancing the delivery of high-quality, compliant medical projects while engaging with both internal stakeholders and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the implementation and harmonisation of medical processes and standards across therapy areas to ensure high-quality execution and alignment with global strategy.

Serve as the primary point of contact for country-level Medical Directors and Managers as well as for global medical stakeholders.

Act as the regional expert on medical compliance, managed access programs, and investigator-sponsored studies.

Support and guide partner market medical teams and global medical affairs counterparts.

Drive monthly and quarterly Medical Dashboard execution and leadership.

Oversee personnel planning, job description development, competency training, and hiring for key medical roles across Centra/ Eastern Europe, Russia, Japan+ countries.

Lead and manage a team of Medical Program and Engagement Managers.

Chair the Core Medical Team within the region.

Candidate Profile

You are a proactive and seasoned Medical Affairs professional with a strong strategic mindset and excellent leadership abilities. Your strengths include scientific communication, cross-functional project management, and stakeholder engagement at both local and global levels.

Required Qualifications

Advanced degree in life sciences

Background in haematology or immunology preferred.

Strong understanding of working with local affiliates to streamline launch activities.
Minimum 8 years experience across Medical/ Commercial Affairs.

Previous experience as a Medical Director or Head of Medical Excellence is highly desirable.

Proven project leadership, team management, and budget oversight skills.

Strong understanding of pre and post launch strategy.

Excellent proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Willingness to travel internationally (~30%)
