Head of Data Science – AI Driven Drug Discovery

Location:London (Hybrid)

Industry:Biotech/ Precision Medicine / Drug Discovery

Salary range:£110,000 – £140,000 base(DOE) + bonus + equity

A rapidly growing biotech company at the forefront ofAI-driven drug discoveryis seeking an exceptionalHead of Data Scienceto lead and scale a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, bioinformaticians, and machine learning engineers.

This is a strategic leadership role with high impact—working across biology, chemistry, and clinical domains to drive insight, innovation, and intelligent decision-making throughout the R&D lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing data science team
  • Define and execute the data strategy supporting target discovery, compound optimisation, and translational research
  • Drive the development and deployment ofmachine learning modelsandAI toolsfor biomarker discovery, predictive modelling, and multi-modal data integration
  • Collaborate with wet-lab scientists, software engineers, and external partners to translate data into therapeutic breakthroughs
  • Represent data science in senior leadership and contribute to company-wide strategy and growth


Experience:

  • PhD or MSc in Data Science, Computational Biology, AI/ML, or related STEM field
  • Proven experience leading data science teams inbiotech, pharma, orhealth-tech
  • Deep technical expertise inmachine learning, statistical modelling, and real-world application to biological data (e.g. omics, imaging, screening)
  • Familiarity withdrug discovery pipelines, from early discovery through translational research
  • Strong communicator with the ability to influence across scientific and commercial teams


Desirable:

  • Experience withgenerative AI,multi-omics integration, orstructure-based drug design
  • Understanding ofregulatory data requirementsand translational biomarkers
  • Previous involvement inVC-backedorearly-stage biotechgrowth
