Location:United Kingdom – Fully Remote, but you must be based in the UK.

Company Overview:

Our client is one of the largest Medical Cannabis producers & distributors in Europe. They were first established in 2006, and have over 1,000 employees worldwide, with over 100 in Germany and two in the UK. They are one of the better-known players in the EU cannabis space and were among the first to build a stable supply chain in Germany & UK for Cannabis medicines. They also have one of the strongest reputations for high-quality and consistent cannabis-based medications.


The company is part of a larger publicly listed group and is considered a “household name” in the global cannabis industry. They’ve been selling medical cannabis in Europe for over 7 years, and are now looking for a UK-based EU Corporate Communications Manager to help lead their external and internal communications strategy across the European market.


Role Overview:

The Corporate Communications team is an essential business partner responsible for all aspects of internal and external communications and a strong contributor to the company’s reputation. Reporting to the VP, Corporate Communications and Public Relations, the Manager, Corporate Communications will play an important role in the global communications team, with a special focus on our client’s European business. This role is responsible for the effective and successful delivery of the department’s strategic plan and impact on the EU business overall. It is expected that this person will also contribute to our client’s culture and employee experience.


The Communications Manager will be responsible for shaping and executing our client’s communications strategy across Europe. Reporting to the Global VP of Communications and PR, this role is part of the global communications team. It will focus specifically on strengthening reputation, engagement, and visibility across Europe with an initial focus on UK, Germany, and Poland.


You’ll work directly with the EU leadership team and global stakeholders to lead external comms (media, social, events, digital) as well as contribute to internal communications and the wider employee experience. This is a strategic but hands-on role — perfect for someone who wants to own projects, write and deliver campaigns, manage media relationships, and support senior leaders with messaging and positioning.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and deployment of a comprehensive external communications strategy designed to promote and advance our client’s leadership in the EU. The plan must consider the communications approach across earned and owned media channels, including social media, media relations, digital, public events and more.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with the EU leadership team and key business partners to identify announcement moments and develop supporting communications strategies and materials to communicate these moments effectively.
  • Forge strong relationships with key media in the major markets in which our client operates.
  • Serve as a media contact and spokesperson, equipped with media relationships across all key markets and ability to generate media messaging in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a roster of EU activity plans within the broader global communication’s team pipeline and be responsible for executing against EU communications priorities.
  • Lead the content and channel strategy, as well as content development and asset creation, for the company’s social media channels.
  • Work collaboratively with Sales and Marketing to develop and maintain a library of communication materials that represent the strategic priorities, business success and commercial focus for the EU team. Ensure materials are current and suitable for communication purposes.
  • Serve as a communications consultant to EU leadership and be able to provide support for leadership speaking engagements and overall thought leadership that strengthens the company’s reputation.
  • Be accountable for the maintenance of the European website, ensuring regular updates to fit the status of the business and the markets in which our client operates.
  • Provide communications advice and support to leaders with regards to matters potentially affecting the business. Work closely with the VP on issues management and provide oversight on all communications issues, coordinating with other departments as required.
  • Contribute regularly to the company’s intranet both personally and by requesting content from EU colleagues so that the European team is properly represented and celebrated across this important employee internal channel.
  • Be an active and engaged team member, supporting in-office and broader company events that contribute to a great culture and employee experience.
  • Maintain regular reporting and analysis of work, contributing to the team’s broader reporting and delivery of strategic goals.
  • Successfully manage departmental budgets and oversee agency relationships (as required), ensuring projects are properly scoped and completed on time, within budget and meeting program goals.
  • Take guidance from, and meet regularly with the Global VP, Corporate Communications and the global team in Canada to achieve our client’s European communications goals in line with global strategy.
  • The Communications Manager must be based in UK and be available to travel as required to our client’s office in Berlin, as well as to other markets such as Poland and more.


Requirements:

Must-haves:

  • You must have 4-5+ years of experience in Communications or Public Relations, within fast-paced sectors, such as FMCG, CPG, Consumer Goods, Consumer Health or Pharma
  • You must have a University education/equivalent in Communications, Public Relations or similar/relevant
  • You must have experience in external and Internal communications. We are looking for a generalist. Its likely to be 60% external & 40% internal
  • You must have experience in corporate communications.
  • Proficiency in English is a must, with strong writing skills.
  • Passion for advancing the communication discipline in a fast-paced business
  • Ability to successfully balance execution against a defined strategy with the need to be flexible as opportunities are presented
  • A proven track record of building effective relationships with senior executives, business partners and teammates
  • Experience leveraging media relations to effectively drive business objectives
  • Well-developed business acumen
  • Skill/diplomacy in dealing with people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality


Bonus points for:

  • Fluency in German
  • Experience in public markets(Publicly traded companies)
  • Cannabis industry knowledge or experience
  • European-wide / Global / International Comms & PR Experience
