Location:RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, withfree onsite parking.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend most of their time (~80%) working on site at AWE Aldermaston.

Package: £24,270 - £34,570 per annum(depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Let us introduce the role

TheEngineering Functional Services (EFS) Teamwithin AWE are looking for an innovative, creative, and highly motivatedLaboratory Technician.

This role will provide technical support, underpinning engineering laboratory activities through the set-up, operation and maintenance of required technical capabilities.

Applying knowledge and skills to oversee day-to-day laboratory management for a number of complex laboratories, supporting facility management, deconfliction activities, health, safety and quality compliance, and resolving technical issues as they arise to ensure ongoing laboratory availability

Role responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for laboratory documentation, ensuring it is correctly configured and sufficient for use within the laboratory.

  • Working alongside the Laboratory Manager to ensure the safe and secure day-to-day operation of laboratories whilst working towards future accountability for assigned lab.

  • Supporting laboratory walk rounds, maintenance visits and escorting visitors to the facility.

  • Supporting laboratory inductions for new staff.

  • Management of laboratory-based asset change processes.

  • Procurement and introduction of new equipment within labs.

  • Management of consumables and PPE stocks.

Who are we looking for?

We do need you to have the following:

  • The successful candidate must have previous experience of working within a laboratory environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently but also within a team; supporting colleagues to achieve the team's goals.

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following:

  • ONC, HNC or HND within an engineering discipline

  • A track record of driving delivery, performance and continuous improvement and demonstrable working appreciation of financial and business requirements.

  • Ability to provide technical input within own field of expertise and solve technical problems

You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.
