Applications are invited for a Consultant Chemical Pathologist to join the current team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, a University affiliated Teaching Hospital. This is a 40 hour, permanent post. The post includes duties in the Parenteral Nutrition service, Obesity Clinic and Duty Biochemist rota, and other relevant areas of activity can be developed in line with the interests of the successful candidate.

The post will offer opportunities for teaching and research.

The appointee will have use of their own office with IT facilities. It is expected that the University of Aberdeen will accord the status of Honorary Associate, with the opportunity to apply for Honorary Senior Lecturer status subsequently, on the basis of teaching and/or research contributions to the work of the University.

The Clinical Biochemistry Department provides comprehensive core, immunoassay, point of care, specialist protein, metabolic and toxicology services to the North-East of Scotland, including specialist biochemistry services to the Orkney and Shetland Islands involving a total catchment population of over 600,000. The Department is accredited by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS ISO 15189:2022).The Laboratory has recently undergone refurbishment under a Managed Service Contract.

Aberdeen, the 'silver city' in the North-East of Scotland, boasts some excellent schools and leisure facilities. It provides the ideal environment for work-life balance with ease of access to the coast and some of the most spectacular countryside in the UK. There are ample opportunities for outdoor leisure and sporting activities.

The appointee is required to be a team player, an enthusiastic trainer, and to fulfil the duties described in the Job Description. The post is offered on a whole time equivalent basis, including 2 SPAs. Candidates who wish to work less than full-time will also be considered.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. 

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
