Mott Macdonald Bentley (MMB) is the design and build unit of global engineering consultancy Mott Macdonald. We are currently looking to recruit an Ecologist to help support us in delivering work within our United Utilities framework.

MMB are among one of seven partners that will support United Utilities to deliver £3bn worth of upgrades to critical infrastructure assets including water and wastewater treatment sites, pumping stations and reservoirs. Investment also includes reducing storm overflows through the delivery of the largest spill reduction programme in the UK, protecting more than 500km of rivers and bathing waters within the Northwest during the AMP8 period.

We are looking for an Ecologist with experience of field surveys using UK Habitat assessment, Biodiversity Net Gain condition assessment and protected species surveys. As well as having knowledge of wildlife legislation including planning processes and/or EIA/HRA assessments and undertaking surveys.

What You Can Offer

  • A degree in Ecology (or directly related subject).
  • Hold Chartership or have the relevant experience to achieve this.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of applying relevant guidance for surveys.
  • At least one protected species survey licence (preferably for bats or great crested newts) or experience of applying for mitigation licences.
  • Ability to write reports to a high standard.
  • Experience of mentoring junior staff and checking of work.
  • Experienceof assessing and implementing biodiversity net gain.

Mott MacDonald Bentley is a joint venture business, established in 1999 between civil engineering contractor JN Bentley and global management consultancy, Mott MacDonald.

Mott MacDonald Bentley offers fully integrated design and build services to its clients, combining the contracting expertise of JN Bentley and the design specialisms of Mott MacDonald.

This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture business, both with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.
