Location: PHARMAQ Analytiq UK, Solasta House, 8 Inverness Campus, Inverness, IV2 5NA, Scotland General Overview

As part of our continued expansion of fish diagnostic services, PHARMAQ Analytiq UK is seeking a motivated and skilled Diagnostic Lab Analyst to join our team at the stunning UHI Inverness campus in Scotland. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing and dynamic field in aquatic animal health.

Zoetis has more than 65 years of experience in discovering, developing, manufacturing, and commercializing veterinary products in over 100 countries. PHARMAQ Analytiq operates in Scotland, Ireland, Chile, and Norway, with a strong focus on innovation and service.

In 2022, we established a state-of-the-art PCR laboratory at UHI Inverness, complementing our digital pathology and microbiology labs, and strengthening our service to both local and international fish farms.


Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and book client samples using our online system (iWISE).
  • Perform nucleic acid extractions and PCR analyses in accordance with departmental SOPs.
  • Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments.
  • Support SOP and HSE documentation, and promote Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Analyse PCR results, compile reports, and communicate findings to clients.
  • Manage lab consumables, orders, and maintain records (digital and hardcopy).
  • Prepare basic solutions and conduct routine lab procedures.
  • Contribute to assay development, validation, and QC.
  • Ensure proper sample storage and tracking.
  • Maintain accurate equipment and process records within our Quality Management System (VIS).
  • Support training of interns and junior staff in diagnostic procedures.
  • Assist in other diagnostic areas (e.g., microbiology and histopathology), as delegated.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Highly organized and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced setting.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive, solution-oriented, and flexible attitude.
  • Familiarity with SOPs and adherence to biosafety standards.
  • Prior hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Good command of English (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to work extended hours- if required.

Qualifications & Desirable Experience

  • BSc in Biology, Molecular Biology, Aquaculture, Veterinary Medicine, or related discipline (postgraduate qualifications are a plus).
  • 1-2 years of experience in diagnostic laboratories.
  • Proficiency in nucleic acid extraction and PCR testing.
  • Experience in microbiology and/or histopathology is beneficial but not essential.
  • Previous work in aquaculture or fish health is an advantage.
