The Commercial Analyst is a key position focused on developing, managing, and optimizing cost models that support our sales operations. This role is responsible for ensuring that our pricing strategies are competitive and aligned with financial goals by providing detailed cost analysis and insights. This person will work closely with the sales, finance, and operations teams to create accurate cost structures, forecast budgets, and evaluate pricing models.


This position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively. As the Commercial Analyst, you will play a critical role in enhancing our profitability and ensuring our sales strategies are financially robust.


Key Responsibilities


Cost Model Development


  • Develop, maintain, and improve detailed cost models to support pricing strategies and
  • sales proposals.
  • Ensure cost models accurately reflect the costs associated with delivering services, including labour, materials, overhead, and other direct and indirect costs.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to tailor cost models to specific client requirements and project scopes.
  • Financial Analysis and Support:
  • Conduct thorough financial analysis to validate cost assumptions and ensure the accuracy and competitiveness of pricing proposals.
  • Support the preparation of business cases and financial proposals for new and existing clients.


Data Management and Integrity


  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of cost data by implementing robust processes
  • Regularly review and update cost data to reflect changes in labour rates, material costs, and other relevant factors.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of cost assumptions, methodologies, and sources.


Cross-functional Collaboration


  • Work closely with finance, operations, procurement, and other departments to gather necessary data and insights for cost models.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand client needs and tailor cost models accordingly.


Continuous Improvement


  • Identify opportunities to improve cost modelling processes and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and best practices to ensure cost models remain relevant and competitive.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive business growth and operational efficiency.


Skills & Qualifications required


  • Proven experience (typically +2 years) in financial analysis, cost modelling, or related roles.
  • Experience in sales finance or similar areas within a complex, dynamic business environment.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling and advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience in developing and optimizing cost structures and pricing models.
  • Ability to think strategically and align cost models with broader business objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of the specific industry in which the company operates can be beneficial, providing context for cost structures and market conditions.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is an advantage
