At Chirton Engineering they design, manufacture, and services bespoke equipment, vessels, precision components and remote handling systems alongside providing specialist engineering services in the Nuclear, Defence, Oil & Gas, Motorsport, Pharmaceutical and Renewable industries. They have over 120 years of experience and provide industry leading services to our portfolio of long-standing customers.

  • North Shields, NE29 7SW

    Hours of Work & Pay & Benefits

  • 4 day working week - Monday to Thursday 37 hours per week.

  • £17.45 - £19.65 plus shift allowance £5.82 - £6.55 per hour

  • Flexibility on start and finish times.

  • Three work patterns available (nightshift, day shift or two weeks days, two weeks nights on rotation).

  • Overtime available paid at time and a half.

  • Up to 12 weeks company sick pay.

  • On site gym

    Key responsibilities

  • Setting up and operating CNC machines: Prepare the machine for the specific task, program the machine, and oversee the operation.

  • Monitoring and adjusting machine settings: Ensure that the machine is working at optimal efficiency and quality. This may involve adjusting speed, feed, coolant flow, and other settings.

  • Inspecting finished products for accuracy and quality: Check the finished product to ensure it meets the required specifications and quality standards.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues with CNC machines: Identify and fix any problems with the machine, such as mechanical issues or programming errors.

  • Collaborating with engineers to optimize manufacturing processes: Work closely with engineers to improve the manufacturing process, which can include optimizing machine settings, improving tooling, and implementing new machining strategies. Supporting the company on its continuous improvement journey.

  • Ensuring the Safety of self and others: Following company procedures and best practice

  • Ensuring Compliance with Environmental Responsibilities: Following company procedures and best practice

    What you need for the role.

  • Previous experience and skills in a CNC milling role.

  • Knowledge of CNC machinery, tooling, and precision measurement tools.

  • Experience with Mazatrol and Siemens controls is advantageous.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings.

  • Mechanical aptitude and strong math skills.

  • Keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach.

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for prolonged periods.
