About us

The Centre for Research in Eating and Weight Disorders (CREW) within the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience is recruiting a highly motivated and passionate clinician as Clinical Research Fellow to assist the team as study physician in delivering the study "A Randomised-controlled Feasibility Study of Ketamine for the Treatment of Depression with Anorexia Nervosa (EDEN)". The sponsors are King's College London and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation. The trial is funded by the Medical Research Council.

Please note that oral ketamine, the study medication, is a "schedule 2" controlled drug and is not approved for the treatment of depression in people with anorexia nervosa.

About the role

The post holder will mainly be responsible for the Clinical management of trial participants, including recruitment, screening, informed consent, research measures administration, data entry, medication management and administration, risk management, clinical liaison, and monitoring as well as all follow up procedures that may be necessary. The post holder will work alongside a study coordinator, study nurses and the Chief Investigator (Dr Hubertus Himmerich) to deliver the study. The postholder will have excellent written and oral communication and organisation skills and will demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm. Previous experience of working with people with an eating disorder is desirable.

The post holder will work with and be supervised by Dr Hubertus Himmerich (Chief Investigator; Consultant Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders; Reader in Eating Disorders), Dr Johanna Keeler (Postdoc) and Professor Janet Treasure OBE (Professor of Adult Psychiatry).

The post holder will additionally work with the study manager of this study, the research nurses at the Clinical Research Facility at King's College Hospital, and other members of the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience.

This post will be offered on an a 12-month fixed term contract with the possibility of a 12 month extension.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Research staff at King's are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers , applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria
Medical Degree (e.g., MBBS) and GMC registered with a valid license to practice
Up-to-date training in Good Clinical Practice and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations (CTIMP)
Post graduate experience in psychiatry
Recent practical experience of physical examinations, blood drawing, ECG
Experience of research interviewing, including psychological measures and clinical assessments in patient groups
Knowledge of ethics and research governance procedures
Working at all times according to Good Clinical Practice, Research Governance and Trust guidelines
A demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of colleagues

Desirable criteria
Research Degree (e.g., MSc, MPhil, PhD, MDRes)
Experience in the management or co-ordination of clinical trials
Interest in psychopharmacology and precision psychiatry
Recent research experience as researcher/research assistant Experience in data entry
