About Bloods UK

Bloods UK is a growing private laboratory based in Grimsby, specialising in haematology, biochemistry, and immunology. Initially focused on blood testing, we are expanding our scope to include the clinical interpretation of results, aligning with ISO 15189:2022 standards. As part of this transition, we are seeking an experienced Clinical Consultant to guide our laboratory in achieving and maintaining accreditation.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and qualifiedClinical Consultantto join our team and provide clinical advisory services for our laboratory. This role is instrumental in ensuring our adherence to ISO 15189:2022 standards, maintaining the highest quality of care for our users and patients.


As Clinical Consultant, you will:


Clinical Oversight:

  • Create and interpret clinical reference ranges for haematology and biochemistry results.
  • Provide clinical interpretations for abnormal results to both users and patients.


Quality Assurance:

  • Implement and oversee External Quality Assurance (EQA) procedures for trend analysis and evaluation.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate erroneous results.


Accreditation Support:

  • Provide clinical advisory services to support UKAS 15189:2022 accreditation efforts.
  • Actively participate in UKAS inspections and assessments.


Compliance and Training:

  • Ensure laboratory operations adhere to ISO 15189:2022 standards.
  • Assess and maintain the competency of laboratory and quality staff through training and evaluation.


Documentation and Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Quality team to ensure all documentation is accurate, up to date, and compliant with standards.
  • Be available to provide clinical advice on results and reporting when required.

Qualifications and Skills


  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) isrequired.
  • Candidates without FRCPath may be considered if significant relevant experience and qualifications are demonstrated.
  • Expertise in haematology, biochemistry, and pathology.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 15189:2022 standards, with experience in achieving or maintaining accreditation preferred.
  • Ability to create and interpret clinical reference ranges and provide detailed result analyses.
  • Experience implementing EQA procedures and conducting risk assessments.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to train and support staff effectively.
  • Flexibility to work remotely while being available for result interpretation and advisory needs.
  • UK-based, with the ability to attend onsite activities as required.
