Join us in our mission to transform bioprocess optimisation and unleash the power of biotech to create a more sustainable future today!

About us

We develop downstream process optimisation software to accelerate the R&D and reduce product costs of alternative proteins and other sustainable bioproducts.

We believe SynBio has the potential to transform sustainable food production, but high production costs and long R&D timelines are a huge barrier to change. That’s why we founded New Wave Biotech – we develop software that uses computational modelling to conduct virtual experimentation on billions of potential processes, to help sustainable alt protein companies optimise their production for cost, quality and sustainability.

We’re a mission driven company working in a new industry where a lot is unknown. We aren’t afraid of the ambiguity and relish the opportunity to pave a path. To navigate this adventure, we’re building a culture where each person has the freedom to approach things their way, to be open and honest without being afraid to admit when they don’t know something, and work collaboratively with others to solve problems together. Diversity is core to our values, not just because of our founders’ personal backgrounds, but also because we see the importance of having varying perspectives in complex problem solving. For that reason, flexibility is key to us – we don't mind how you work or what hours you keep, as long as you get the job done!

We’re an ambitious, fast-paced startup. Since founding the company 2 years ago, our product’s already been recognised by leading industry organisations as a pioneering innovation. We’re now hiring a Bioprocess Engineer to join our team to develop our platform and help us accelerate our growth.

We are a fast moving collaborative, multidisciplinary team, where every member of the team has a key role to play. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to pick up new skills and develop fast, to own and take responsibility for new features, have a meaningful impact on our product and direction, and grow with the company.

The Role

As a Bioprocess Engineer, you'll be part of our bioprocess engineering team, and work closely with the software development team to:

  • Develop and improve mechanistic and data-driven models for key unit operations
  • Help scope and refine new features from the details of membrane dynamics to modelling entire unit operations
  • Support the development team with bioprocessing expertise, from parameter ranges to new product feature design
  • Provide engineering support and insight in customer meetings

Job requirements & Key skills:

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, process engineering, biotechnology or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial bioprocessing, ideally specialising in downstream purification
  • Experienced in delivering process techno-economic analysis
  • Experience using software such as Matlab or Python

Preferred/Desired Skills:

  • PhD candidates in relevant disciplines
  • Deep industrial experience in biomanufacturing
  • Knowledge and application of different process modelling technologies such as Aspen Plus, SuperPro Designer, gPROMS or GoSilico
  • Knowledge of, or a strong interest in, protein production processes, particularly in the alternative protein and food space, and an interest in its sustainability impact

About you:

  • Enjoy technical challenges and complex analytical systems
  • Enjoy working in a team and finding solutions together
  • Enjoy learning and pick up complex topics fast

Why work with us:

  • We are a young and dynamic startup, revolutionising bioprocess design and optimisation. We function with a flat hierarchy, and the teams’ success will be the company’s success
  • Make your mark and grow with us – as one of the early employees, your work has a great influence on the growth of our company and you’ll have a lot of opportunities to grow as we scale
  • We offer the autonomy to take ownership of your work, be proactive, and drive meaningful change.
  • Flexible working hours and location – our team is fully remote with a budget for co-working
  • 25 days holiday
  • A competitive salary package based on your prior experience and skills, including stock options
  • Our founders don’t look like typical tech founders, and we don’t expect you to either. We encourage people from all backgrounds, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, or gender identity to apply
