Job Description:

As an Automation Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in setting up and developing the automation infrastructure of the Newcastle R&D site. You’ll lead the design, implementation, and validation of advanced control systems using PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA technologies in a GMP-regulated environment.

The Automation Engineer will be responsible for capital project support, troubleshooting process control issues, and driving automation solutions for new technology and product introductions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead capital projects applying automation engineering principles to complex systems.

  • Design and implement process control systems aligned with industry standards (GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11).

  • Develop and maintain engineering documents, SOPs, and technical specifications.

  • Conduct root cause analyses, support validation, and change control activities.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support new product and technology introductions.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and GMP regulations.

  • Provide flexible support including occasional after-hours engineering coverage.

    Skills & Experience:

    To succeed as an Automation Engineer, you’ll need:

  • A BSc/MSc in Electrical, Computer Science, Chemical or Biotech Engineering.

  • 2+ years of experience with Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell FactoryTalk, and ControlLogix.

  • Expertise in developing, installing, and validating automated processes.

  • Strong leadership, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Experience in cGMP environments and familiarity with CIP, COP, and clean utilities.

  • Knowledge of ASTM 2500, S88/S95, and building automation systems.

  • Proven ability to manage technical challenges and drive automation strategy.
