Job Introduction

The BBC News Audiences team works closely with journalists editors and content makers to ensure that audiences are kept at the heart of decisionmaking in the newsroom from story choice to platform strategies. Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Portfolio Head of Audience Research for BBC News in the UK and working closely with their job share partner the Audience Research Manager will:

  • Lead on research to shape BBC News output across BBC News online for the benefit of UK audiences working in close collaboration with colleagues in audience planning and analytics to provide a clear understanding of audiences and develop strategies for success.
  • Lead on research for BBC Weather across all platforms helping stakeholders within the BBC understand what audiences want need and value from a modern crossplatform weather service.
  • This role will also lead on social media research for BBC News helping journalists set audience strategies for the different social platforms and helping them understand what success looks like on each.
  • Manage quantitative and qualitative research projects to better understand UK audiences behaviours attitudes and needs with the aim of delivering tangible actionable insight for stakeholders. This could involve commissioning and collaborating with agency partners.
  • Build strong collaborative working relationships with stakeholders and colleagues across a range of areas including editorial product marketing strategy and analytics.
  • Operate as a senior member of the BBC News Audiences team supporting with priority projects and stakeholder requests.
  • Have responsibility for the daytoday management and development of junior team members.
Are you the right Candidate

Were looking for someone who has:

  • Significant experience of audience measurement and working with media industry data ideally for digital products and services (digital analytics tools like ATI Piano IpsosIrisetc).
  • A proven ability to analyse a diverse range of data sets to understand performance trends make recommendations and set benchmarks for success.
  • Experience of managing qualitative and quantitative market research projects with a high degree of autonomy and a knowledge of different techniques.
  • A good understanding of the UK news/media market wider audience trends and the context in which BBC News operates.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to turn complex data into compelling reports articles and presentations and deliver to stakeholders with different levels of data literacy.
  • An ability to manage a variety of projects at the same time with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities in a dynamic news environment.
  • A strong track record of establishing and fostering collaborative relationships with a wide range of colleagues senior stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Experience of managing developing or supporting junior team members.
  • A genuine passion for news and current affairs.
