Job Description

Working at IPS, you will apply your knowledge, skills, and passion to make a difference in the lives of people, solving complex challenges related to life sciences. We are looking for a dynamicArchitectto design life-changing facilities for pharmaceutical and bio-technology clients with a growing workload across UK and Europe.

As an architect with experience in the life sciences industry, you will develop preliminary designs and be responsible for work in all phases of the architectural process. Previous experience in a related sector such as Healthcare or Industrial will also be considered. You will have at least 5 years of experience working in Revit and be confident in the application of 3D modelling software.

Based in our offices at eitherAlderley Park, Cheshire or Birmingham, you will create and update design documents across a broad range of types as you develop solutions to design problems; including drawings; specifications; presentations and word documents. You will review drawings and documents to ensure compliance with the company, regulatory agencies, and production standards, whilst developing solutions to design challenges.

Our architectural teams develop design documentation for the following design phases equivalent to RIBA job stages; Concept (Stage 2) - programming/briefing, master planning, schematic; Basis of Design (Stage 3 - Spatial Coordination); Detailed Design (Stage 4 – Technical Design) Construction documentation.

Architectural construction administration activities will include preparing bulletins, construction sketches, submittal review, and RFI responses as well as performing on-site observations and field support when required.

What You Will Do

  • Ensure project specifications are delivered with company quality standards and are delivered on time as required by the client.
  • Develop “Workplans” and compute hours and deliverables needed to complete design tasks.
  • Work with equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain the necessary information needed for design completion.
  • Interact with clients to secure scope and design intent.
  • Research equipment selection from catalogues as needed for the project.
  • Use Revit to develop architectural design solutions that align with company BIM/CAD standards.
  • Create renderings, generate diagrams, and carry out special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor of Architecture Degree – Part 1 equivalent
  • Diploma / Masters Degree in Architecture – Part 2 equivalent
  • Architectural Registration with ARB

Preferred Qualifications

  • ARB Registration
  • RIBA Member (not obligatory)
  • Life Sciences industry experience; including planning, designing, and construction of a diverse range of engineering projects
  • Ability to interpret a client Brief and generate varied design concepts
  • Knowledge of UK planning law and building regulations and capable of interpreting project specifications
  • Experience and knowledge of process, mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, plumbing and fire protection system design and how these systems integrate into architectural design
  • Possess a general understanding of BIM workflows

Context, Environment, & Safety

  • Travel duration, if any, is based on project complexity and location
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position. The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas
