We have opportunities in our Clinical Pathology Services department at our site in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire!

You will be participate in all procedures in the operational areas of Clinical Pathology Services. These include Sample analysis, metrology and general laboratory support duties. The jobholder will assist the Senior Scientists with some involvement in specialist functions and projects within the department.

Main Responsibilities Include

  • Holding the responsibility to maintain lab cleanliness, supplies and tidiness (cleaning, disposal of Samples and expired stock, waste disposal etc.)
  • Assisting in maintaining laboratory equipment, equipment records within laboratory areas, assisting with the pipette calibration process and relevant lab archiving.
  • Sample management tasks (Receiving and booking in samples, processing of samples and checking of samples prior to analysis).
  • Gradual progression into more technical analyser maintenance and analysis.

Training is on the job, with a dedicated training program offering both one on one sessions and larger groups in order to develop key manual and scientific skills. Our aim during the 2-year programme is to produce confident competent scientific technicians with the core skills to allow them to develop a career within the company. We then offer the option to progress to both a Level 5 or Level 6 Degree qualification or beyond to a Masters Qualification.

What You'll Receive

  • You'll undertake a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship over the course of 24 months.
  • If you already hold an A Level (or equivalent) in a scientific subject, you will also study for a Level 4 HNC in Applied Science.

What Are We Looking For

  • An A-level in Biology or Chemistry is preferred but not essential. Relevant work Experience or a level 3 science-based qualification is also beneficial.
  • A passion for science
  • A willingness to learn
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Great attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Time management and prioritisation skills in order to balance the demands of work and college

Start Date: August 2025
