Job Description

As a result of internal progression, we have 2 exciting opportunities within our R&D Team to work as Development Engineers supporting either New Product Introduction (NPI) or Base Business. The main purpose of the NPI Product Design Engineer (PDE) is to design medical implant and instrumentation for all Corin Group products, whilst ensuring that we are adhering to Corin’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as well as tthe quality management system (IQM) and Quality Standards (ISO13485 QMS and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) FDA21 CFR Part 820). Alternatively the key purpose of a Base Business Development Engineer is to provide post-NPI sustainment and development of existing Corin implant and instrument products, with responsibility for design optimization and product maintenance.

The key responsibilities:

For the NPI Product Design Engineer will include:

  • The design of medical orthopaedic implants and associated instrumentation; ability to generate concept and detail design, using any appropriate method and dedicated CAD, FEA, and PLM software; take an active part in brainstorming and problem solving as required
  • Generate full design package to facilitate design transfer to production in collaboration with Production and Quality Engineering function; this includes support / creating / filing / maintain process and inspection sheets and any other design/manufacturing related documentation together with manufacturing drawings as required.
  • Produce and maintain design control, risk management documentation and technical reports according Corin internal procedures and to the required quality standard
  • Support Bioengineers providing biomechanical expertise
  • Liaise with other internal teams such as Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Quality and Regulatory teams internally to ensure effective introduction of new devices and compliance with regulations.
  • Manage design; problem solving ability by completing route cause and liaising with appropriate stakeholders to implement actions in a timely manner
  • lead and manage key aspects of design projects as part of project core teams; ability to lead key aspects of and take part to CAPA projects
  • Contribute to the maintenance and base business activities of existing implant and instrument product systems in compliance with standard operating procedures and best practice.

    For Base Business it will include:

  • Create the necessary design documentation to current SOP’s and design procedures.
  • Perform structural calculations, tolerance stack analysis, and CAD assembly assessments.
  • Validate and verify activities to support the development process.
  • Create and maintain design documentation for instrument and implant devices.
  • Create and maintain 3D and 2D CAD drawings and models for design and manufacturing use.
  • Manage specific design projects as and when required, to budgets and plans.
  • Critical review and updating of Design History File (DHF) and risk management documentation.
  • Provide design and process support to Corin departments, sub-contractors, and customers.
  • Produce test protocols and reports to support performance testing of Corin instrument and implant devices.
  • Contribute to the design and development of new implant and instrument products in compliance with standard operating procedures and best practice.
  • Adhere to Quality Management System (QMS) requirements in line with Corin’s ISO13485 QMS & Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) FDA21 CFR Part 820.
  • Ensure that process & timeline requirements for Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA) are met by Corin’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and in support of Corin’s Global Objectives for CAPA.
  • Assist post-market activities in complaints investigations, root cause analysis, and defect resolution.
  • Support regulatory submissions and audits including FDA submissions and CE marking (MDR)

    Skills and Experience:

  • An advanced apprenticeship or graduate level BEng or BSc in a relevant subject such as Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Product Design or demonstrate a similar level of education or experience.
  • Competent CAD operator, experience with Siemens NX and/or Solid Edge would be an advantage.
  • Able to understand the orthopaedic field or other highly regulated environments
  • Able to build positive collaborations with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Well organised, able to manage its own time effectively and track multiple tasks at various levels of completion
  • The ability to make informed decisions based on available evidence and expertise
  • Self-starter attitude
