Our Laboratory Animal Science department comprises of several distinct animal facilities, each with a specific focus based on species and/or study type. The LAS team is made up of staff across various grades and levels of experience. Unlike many other establishments in the industry, our team members receive extensive cross-training and are proficient in a wide range of techniques and procedures across all species housed within the facilities.
Role Overview: This entry-level role is perfect for someone ready to take their first step into a career in the science industry. In this role, you'll be at the heart of animal welfare, learning key skills like:
Daily husbandry routines including feeding, watering, socialisation and cage changing
Maintaining clean and healthy environments for laboratory species
Supporting experienced Animal Technologists with technical procedures.
Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and in particular those relating to Animal Welfare, GLP and Health & Safety.
Rolling shift pattern of start and finish times: 07:00 - 15:30, 08:00 - 16:30 and 09:00 - 17:30.
What we are looking for: A genuine passion for animal care and welfare
An interest in Science
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Ability to follow instructions and work in a structured environment
Willingness to learn and develop new skills with a can-do attitude
GCSE in:English (grade 4) andMaths (grade 4)
A small amount of experience of working with animals in a voluntary or paid capacity is advantageous but not essential.The work can be physical and due to the flexible working nature - i.e. working some weekends, we do seek people who can get into work with their own transport, as Sunday public transport can be tricky in Herefordshire.
What we can offer you : Hands-on training and mentorship in animal care, through the Apprenticeship in Animal Care and Welfare Assistant Level 2 over the course of 18 months.
A qualification: industry-recognised Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) Level 2 diploma in Laboratory Animal Science and Technology
