Job Description Summary:

As a Hardware Analog Electronics Design Engineer, this person designs, specifies, develops, and tests analog electronics for a wide array of applications, including analog front ends, signal conditioning, analog-to-digital conversion, precision feedback systems, dc/dc conversion. They also perform a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phase of specifications and requirements of the systems. The Hardware Analog Electronics Design Engineer designs these circuits, performs simulations, implements the physical layout, verifies and tests designs. They also perform a variety of engineering activities throughout the life cycle to support planning, design, test, deployment, and sustainment.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and build power system architectures.
* Conduct research, design, development, and testing of hardware such as miniature power conversion and management circuitry, distributed power architectures, radiation hardened designs.
* Optimize system designs for reduced size, weight, and power.
* Design new products and develop technical specifications for their production.
* Analyze hardware configuration and processing solutions and test hardware conformance to specifications.
* Develop and maintain effective internal/external relationships.
* Independently executes assignments under the oversight of program leadership.
* Eager to learn new technical skills and expand their depth/technical knowledge.
* Contributes content for technical reports and presentations with appropriate guidance.
* Adapt appropriately to changes in program requirements.
* Identify challenges associated with assigned work and communicate them to project leadership.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities
* Knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Isolated and non-Isolated dc/dc power conversion; rectification; inversion; battery management systems; motor controller design; system-level power distribution design; system/board level grounding/shielding and EMC design techniques.
* Designing and troubleshooting power electronics.
* Proficient with schematic capture and printed circuit board layout.
* Ability to perform circuit simulation using Spice or other simulation tools.
* System modeling and analysis experience using MATLAB, Simulink, or other comparable tools.
* Understanding of applied math and physics.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to write detailed documentation.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required, Master's Degree preferred.

Experience
3-5 years of experience in Power Systems Engineering or related.

Collaborate and communicate with management, internal, and development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution. As well as:

  • Able to apply technical knowledge to solve problems.
  • Contribute high quality content for technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance.
  • Adapt appropriately to changes in program requirements.
  • Proactively identify needs and concerns associated with design decisions and communicate them to project leadership.

Knowledge in at least one of the following areas:

  • Low-noise electronics, analog-digital conversion, methods of synchronous detection, analog and digital signal processing, phase-locked loops, high speed and precision amplifiers, discrete transistor level design, dc/dc power conversion, battery management systems.
  • Designing and troubleshooting analog electronics

This role requires the ability to be onsite in Cambridge, MA.
