We fund researchers acrossfields, disciplines and career stages, in both the UK and Low- andMiddle-Income countries. And we're changing how research is done,through improved tools, technologies, methods and research culture.We support major initiatives in Discovery Research - including keycore-funded research institutes, partnership-led investments, andresearch platforms - to pursue bold and creative research withinour broad remit and to foster a positive research environment. Theteam works to develop and maintain strong working relationships andeffective collaboration mechanisms with key leads at the relevantinstitutes as well as internally across Wellcome teams. We arelooking for a Senior Manager Convergence Research to join the MajorInitiatives team in Discovery Research, to help drive forwardcollaborative change programmes that build on and amplify theimpact of the work. In this role you will: - Provide thoughtleadership, direction and oversight to relevant major initiativesin the Discovery Research portfolio, developing and maintainingstrong working relationships with key stakeholder groups. - Developa comprehensive understanding of the research environment, contextand objectives of relevant major initiatives, and workcollaboratively with them to align on strategies, co-create newchange programmes, and promote a positive, diverse and inclusiveresearch culture. - Proactively identify potential opportunities tofurther DR's long-term strategic aims and scope ideas fordelivering these through new collaborative programmaticinitiatives, considering the range of Wellcome's capabilities andthe broader systems context. - Where relevant, work collaborativelyacross the organisation to ensure that data and insights are usedeffectively to evaluate progress against strategic goals, informnew or ongoing initiatives, and align long-term plans withWellcome's strategy. - Develop ways to raise the profile of thework and impact of the major initiatives, both internally andexternally, and where relevant collaborate with teams at the majorinitiatives to support both organisations in their outreach,engagement and influencing aims. - Continue to build a globalunderstanding of the breadth and latest developments in relevantdiscovery research fields, with a view on the challenges andopportunities facing researchers at different levels. To besuccessful in this role you will have: - Significant expertise inhigher education and research landscape, as relevant to discoveryresearch and potentially both in the UK and internationally, within-depth knowledge of the current state of, and trends in, theregulation and conduct of science and health research and practice.- Demonstrable experience of planning and delivering complexstrategic programmes, at a variety of scales, to a high standardwithin tight deadlines and of evaluating progress on programmeobjectives. - Experience of working with diverse groups ofresearchers at all levels, including engaging with a broadportfolio of research and working with multi- and interdisciplinaryprojects outside of your immediate expertise. - Stronginterpersonal skills with the ability to build excellentcollaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders atall levels, harnessing multiple viewpoints, and being able to actas credible voice of authority and influence negotiations. - Theability to build and maintain effective working relationships witha variety of colleagues and to work effectively with team memberson a broad range of projects within the overall remit. - Strongcommunication and analytical skills, with experience in monitoringand evaluation, demonstrating impact, and generating strategicinsight.
