(Senior) Medical Science Liaison - South West andWales THE POSITION The successful candidate will work withinspecialist respiratory centres across the South-West and Wales.This field-based role will be responsible for non-promotional,scientific exchange and interactions, with External Experts (EE),Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and other relevant decisionmakers(ORDMs). Working as part of our Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)therapy area medical team, the principal role of the MSL is (i) tobuild long-term trusted partnerships with external stakeholderssupporting their research and medical/scientific information needs,(ii) identify the needs of external stakeholders and opportunitieswithin healthcare systems, and proactively meet these by fosteringcollaboration with internal stakeholders and leveraging externalpartnerships, and (iii) inform strategic decisions and supportorganisational goals by developing a deep understanding of thetherapeutic area (TA) and the broader healthcare landscape andgathering actionable insights in alignment with TA/asset strategy,thereby improving patient care and management, facilitatingclinical adoption and adding value to Boehringer. TASKS &RESPONSIBILITIES - Identify, profile, and strategically engage withrelevant external stakeholders in the territory. - Build long-termtrusted partnerships with external stakeholders by drivingpeer-to-peer exchange of unbiased, accurate, up-to-date medical andscientific knowledge and improving disease awareness. - Providemedical/scientific information and expertise on Boehringer’sclinical trials and Boehringer’s medicines to EEs/ HCPs in responseto unsolicited requests on single and ongoing basis, including thedelivery of presentations using approved materials. - Communicatescientific data and asset value-proposition effectively, usingomnichannel orchestration, ensuring that individual preferences andneeds of external stakeholders are met. - Develop a deepunderstanding of stakeholder network, healthcare landscape, andpatient-care pathways, in collaboration with internalcross-functional team members, to develop and execute aterritory-specific strategic stakeholder engagement plan thatsupports the business strategic priorities and the needs of thehealthcare system. - Recognize the gaps/bottlenecks in patientjourneys and identify opportunities for support and/orcollaborative partnerships that aim to improve referral pathwaysand overall patient care and/or relate to data generation. -Proactively seek and gather strategically relevant insights related(but not limited) to the therapeutic area, disease management,healthcare landscape, patient journey, stakeholder network,clinical data and educational gaps, and stakeholder needs andopportunities. - Share insights internally, to relevant teams, tosupport actioning of these insights, inform strategy and theidentification of collaborative opportunities. - Develop andexecute (or support development and execution of)strategies/actions based on the insights within the territoryand/or cross-functionally. - Contribute to shaping internalstrategic decisions and/or therapeutic area goals by discussing andsharing key strategic insights in relevant meetings. - Lead and/orsupport on medical projects or activities for example:publications, medical education, preceptorships, round-tablediscussions, advisory boards, congresses, ECR, etc. - Support onother internal activities/projects such as speaker briefings andinternal trainings, in close collaboration with the appropriateinternal colleagues and external stakeholders. - Provideintelligence and actionable insights to support site/investigatoridentification and selection, site-initiation, and identificationof recruitment gaps of Boehringer-sponsored studies, supporting theclinical development and operations team. - Collaborate with MarketAccess/Healthcare Economics & Outcomes Research/HealthcareAffairs team for discussions on scientific data and assetvalue-proposition. REQUIREMENTS - Demonstrate self-motivation andlearning agility, especially ability to develop expertise in newtherapy areas, to maintain expertise and medical leadership in theILD therapy area. - Ability to collaborate with different internaland external stakeholders, to develop & strengthen trustedpartnerships. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,both written and verbal. - Excellent prioritisation skills andability to manage time and resources optimally. - Proactiveattitude, growth mindset, agility, emotional intelligence,teamwork, trustworthiness, resilience, accountability, and strongleadership. - Strategic mindset and business acumen. - Ability andwillingness to undertake regular travel across the South-West andWales region, and on some occasions to National and InternationalCongresses. - Ability to fulfil key performance indicators (KPIs)associated with respective responsibilities. - Experience ofliaising with external medical experts and internal crossfunctional teams – preferred. - Knowledge of local healthcaresystems and clinical practices related to patient care – preferred.- Experience within the pharmaceutical industry and/or relatedscientific/clinical area – preferred. - This role requires someonewho is a doctor, pharmacist or PhD.
