Purpose of Role

Working within the National Robotarium Engineering team, we seek to appoint a competent, flexible and driven Lab Manager to oversee and organize the daily operations of the National Robotarium robotic laboratories. 


Working with the Head of Robotics, the facility manager and the engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe, efficient and productive work environment for robotic development. This role involves maintaining our assets, organizing inventory, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, actively supporting the engineering team on electronic construction, troubleshooting and repair. 


Key Duties & Responsibilities


The post holder is required to: 

Be responsible for the overall organization, setup and maintenance of the National Robotarium laboratory facilities Provide training and assistance to the engineering team and our collaborators  Always maintain proper health and safety for users and visitors of the laboratory facilities  Be responsible for the physical condition (organization, neatness, safety) of all laboratories and workshops  Be responsible for inventory and repair/replacement of all equipment  Supervise technical support staff and students using the National Robotarium labs  Provide assistance to demonstrations for events  Provide assistance for electrical and electronic development  Research and provide recommendations for further improvements of the laboratory and equipment  Work within multi-disciplinary teams, sometimes more than one team at a time  Represent the National Robotarium within various forums  Work with other staff and clients 

Essential & Desirable Criteria


Essential

MSc in Engineering or related fields with 3+ years of professional experience in lab support management  Experience of working in robotics or with electronic systems  Ability to work independently, in a team, and leading a team  Ability to research, analyse and present complex information effectively with good attention to detail  Ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a dynamic and changing environment  Experience of working in collaborative projects and closely with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation  Excellent written and oral presentation skills  Excellent interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills, able to understand and communicate complex issues effectively  Well-developed knowledge and understanding of relevant legal, statutory, Health and Safety, and governance applications and turning them into good practice  Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing as appropriate, and seeking help where needed  Demonstrated professional and proactive approach 

Desirable

Experience of working on development of analog and digital circuits and electronic systems, on development of embedded systems and with 3D printer equipment  Public engagement experience (STEM)
