Founded in 2021, we are a dynamic and ambitious UK-based pharmaceutical company on a fast-track growth trajectory, supported by private equity. Our strategy is centred on continued expansion through strategic M&A and product in-licensing. In just a few years we have successfully completed three acquisitions and a number of licensing deals, establishing a strong foundation for future growth. We are a small, agile team with a clear vision, led by an experienced team of industry veterans.

Base salary between £55k to £75k plus annual bonus

Pension of 3% (matching) + health insurance

The Role

We are seeking a highly numerate and technically skilled Corporate Development Manager to provide critical support to the Director of Corporate Development. This is a hands-on role at the very heart of our strategic growth engine. You will be responsible for the detailed analysis, financial modelling, and presentation building that underpins all of our M&A and in-licensing activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Modelling: Build, maintain, and refine complex financial models to support the evaluation of M&A and in-licensing opportunities, including DCF, comparable company analysis, LBO, and accretion/dilution analysis.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse company presentations, market data, scientific literature, and other commercial information to identify and assess potential targets.
  • Presentation & Reporting: Prepare clear, logical, and insightful PowerPoint presentations, board materials, and supporting materials that effectively communicate the strategic rationale and financial implications of potential transactions to the senior leadership team.
  • Due Diligence: Act as a key member of the deal team, supporting the coordination and execution of financial and commercial due diligence on target assets and companies.
  • Market Research: Conduct detailed market and industry research to identify opportunities, map competitive landscapes, and support the origination of new opportunities.
  • Process Support: Assist in managing the end-to-end deal process, from initial screening and valuation through to negotiation, closing, and post-acquisition integration planning.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented individual who thrives on technical challenges and is eager to take on significant responsibility.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a Corporate Finance / M&A Advisory role with experience working on M&A transactions
  • Technical Skills: Advanced financial modelling and valuation skills are essential. You must be able to build robust, flexible models from scratch.
  • Analytical Mindset: Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills with an eagle eye for detail. You can see both the big picture and the crucial details within it.
  • Communication: Proven ability to synthesise complex financial and commercial information into clear, concise, and compelling narratives within PowerPoint.
  • Attitude: A self-starter with a proactive and curious mindset. You are comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced, remote environment and can manage competing priorities effectively.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Life Sciences Experience / Interest: A demonstrable interest in, or prior exposure to, the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or life sciences sectors is a significant plus but not a prerequisite.
  • Qualifications: ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CFA (or part-qualified) would be an advantage.

What We Offer

  • Unrivalled Exposure: Direct, daily interaction with the Director of Corporate Development and regular exposure to the CEO, CCDO and the wider senior leadership team. Your work will be highly visible and will directly influence strategic decisions.
  • High-Impact Role: This is not a small cog in a large machine. You will be a crucial member of a small team, and your contribution will be critical to the success of our growth strategy.
  • Career Development: A fantastic opportunity to build on your technical foundation and gain invaluable industry experience. This role offers a steep learning curve and a clear pathway for professional growth within corporate development and pharma.
  • True Flexibility: This is a fully remote role with a focus on output and delivery, offering you the autonomy to manage your own workload and schedule.
  • Dynamic Environment: Join an entrepreneurial, non-bureaucratic, and ambitious team that is passionate about building a leading European pharma company.

How Many Biotechnology Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Biotech Job?

If you are trying to break into biotechnology or progress your career, it can feel like the list of tools you are expected to know is endless. One job advert asks for PCR, another mentions cell culture, another lists bioinformatics pipelines, automation platforms or GMP systems. LinkedIn makes it worse, with people sharing long skills lists that make you wonder if you are already behind. Here is the reality most biotech employers will not say out loud: they are not hiring you because you know every tool. They are hiring you because you understand biological systems, can work accurately and safely, follow protocols, interpret results and contribute reliably to a team. Tools matter, but only when they support those outcomes. So how many biotechnology tools do you actually need to know to get a job? The answer depends on the role you are targeting, but for most job seekers it is far fewer than you think. This article breaks down what employers really expect, which tools are essential, which are role-specific, and how to focus your learning so you look employable rather than overwhelmed.
