Job summary

NHFT is currently seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist for the Learning Disability Team. The role will be based at St Mary's Hospital, Kettering, Northamptonshire.

We offer a £40,000 welcome bonus to the successful candidate, paid over the first two years in post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will demonstrate a commitment to clinical excellence and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. You should be a natural leader and a people person who values collaboration and innovation. Candidates must be MRCPsych or equivalent with full registration, licensed and specialist registered, or within six months of obtaining your CCT at the time of the Advisory Appointment Committee. The ability to travel within the Trust is essential.

About us

There are many opportunities for clinical research, supported by access to the Trust research fellows to develop research ideas. The Trust has a portfolio of studies in Old Age Dementia and Physical Health.

The Trust is nationally leading in physical treatments in mental health, nurse-administered ECT, and ketamine infusion. We collaborate with the Open University, Nottingham, Oxford, and Northampton Universities.

We also host undergraduates from Leicester Medical Schools, offering numerous teaching opportunities.

Person SpecificationQualifications (Essential)

  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration
  • Specialist Register/CCT in LD
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act and ability to act as Responsible Clinician

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Additional postgraduate qualifications
  • Publication of original research

Experience/Training (Essential)

  • Minimum of six years postgraduate experience, including three as SpR in approved training

Experience/Training (Desirable)

  • Management training

Communication Skills (Essential)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff at all levels
  • Ability to present complex information to various audiences, including tribunals

Leadership & Management Skills (Essential)

  • Ability to motivate and develop junior medical staff and MDT members
  • Balance individual and service requirements
  • Understanding of the political and financial framework of healthcare services
