Job Title: Associate General Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel (Senior Director level)

Reports to: General Counsel

Department: Legal

Hours: 35 hours

Location: London, W12 (approx. 2 days per week in office)

Role Summary

The Associate General Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel role will provide a broad range of legal and commercial contract support to Autolus as part of a close-knit, international legal and compliance team. This employee will manage legal professionals in the UK office and will work with senior executives and other stakeholders within the company on critical business initiatives, including supply chain, manufacturing, R&D and pipeline products, licensing/BD, IT and commercial product sales. This employee must have the ability to work independently and to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiating a wide range of legal contracts and agreements to support different business initiatives, including supply chain, manufacturing, R&D and pipeline products, licensing/BD, IT and commercial product sales.
  • Supervising and developing junior legal staff in the UK, including company counsel, paralegals and apprentices
  • Collaborative working with a wide range of Autolus stakeholders, including Procurement, Finance, Commercial, Medical Affairs, IT, Facilities and Logistics, Global Development and BD.
  • Collaborative working with a wide range of third parties, including vendors, suppliers, collaborators, clinical and commercial hospital/sites, as well as Healthcare Professionals.
  • Reviewing and maintaining Autolus standard template agreements and contracts, and promoting efficiencies throughout the contracting process.
  • Supporting the General Counsel in providing legal advisory services to the business.
  • Mentoring, delegating to, and providing guidance to, juniors in the team.

Experience

  • At least 8 years’ post qualification experience (E)
  • At least 4 years’ in-house experience (E)
  • Experience of negotiating and handling a variety of commercial contracts (E)
  • Experience within the life sciences field (E)
  • Experience with the management of corporate entities or employee stock option programmes, in each case in the UK and/or US (P)

Qualifications

  • Law degree (or GDL) plus LPC (E)
  • Admitted to practice in the UK (E)

Skills/Specialist knowledge

  • Ability to move at a fast pace and execute quickly.
  • Ability to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, as listed above.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral & written communication skills.
  • Business oriented and solution-driven.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
