About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant or Associate Professor in spatial proteomics within the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI), Faculty of Medicine. This postholder will lead internationally competitive research in the field of spatial proteomics spanning both respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
What you would be doing:
The successful applicant will be based within the NHLI on the Hammersmith Hospital campus, joining an established team of research and clinician scientists. The appointee is expected to establish a spatial biology hub within the NHLI and develop their own research programme in spatial proteomics, with a strong emphasis on the mechanisms involved in the progression of human respiratory and heart diseases. The appointee’s research programme will integrate advanced spatial biology and imaging technologies, and they will horizon scan to keep abreast of new techniques.

- You will develop a broad range of research within the field of spatial proteomics, cardiovascular and respiratory disease.
- You will establish and contribute to the leadership of a spatial biology hub with other NHLI academics
- You will foster national and international scientific collaborations with other world-leading centres
- You will teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- You will demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regards to individual performance, academic teams, the NHLI, Faculty, College and when participating in national/international initiatives.
Essential requirements
- PhD in spatial proteomics or related field
- Extensive research experience including in the areas of respiratory and / or cardiovascular disease
- Consistent portfolio of publications as first and senior/corresponding author
- Experience in preparing grant applications
- Experience in staff supervision
- Experience in training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
- A proven track record in securing external funding, i.e. fellowships or project grants
- Capacity to produce research that meets international standards of excellence
