Team Leader – Analytical Development

Roles: Full-time, permanent

Location: Harrow, London

Salary: Competitive + bonus + benefits

The Role:

We’re seeking a proactive and methodical Team Leader to manage and oversee our Analytical Development team in our state-of-the-art Biopharma labs (focusing on monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) and other therapeutic proteins). Managing the progress of analytical work to GLP standards, you’ll contribute scientific expertise by performing a broad range of analytical techniques, including Chromatography (HPLC, UPLC, RP, SEC/GPC, IEX, Affinity Chromatography), Spectroscopy (UV-Vis, Plate Reader) and Capillary Electrophoresis (CE, cIEF, icIEF, CE-SDS) and LCMS.

Overseeing a small team, you’ll cascade departmental plans and work with individuals to identify their strengths and development areas for support. In addition, you may transfer in or develop and qualify methods for the structural characterisation of our protein products and process-related impurities – this will include leading method transfer activities to manufacturing sites for lot release assays.

To support the smooth running of the department, you will complete COSHH, risk assessments, safety audits and maintain equipment-specific SOPs, producing data summary and progress reports for the R&D Leadership Team. You will also undertake technical troubleshooting, helping to flag equipment breakdowns / maintenance needs and also support in identifying and purchasing novel state of the art equipment.

The Person:

  • Experience in a similar Senior Scientist / Team Leader role within a biopharma / biotech lab sector, with expertise in protein / antibody chemistry / analysis (e.g. Characterisation, Method Development / Optimisation, Process Analytics, Formulation, QC or R&D).
  • Strong organisation and interpersonal skills, experienced in leading, building and motivating a team.
  • Experience and good technical knowledge in the following techniques: Chromatography (HPLC, UPLC), Capillary Electrophoresis (cIEF, CE-SDS) and Mass Spectrometry.
  • Excellent understanding of therapeutic antibody / protein quality attributes as well as the analytical testing techniques involved for antibodies.
  • Highly analytical with a good attention to detail; can follow instructions closely but can identify when further guidance/work is required.
  • Excellent communication skills (in written and spoken English), you’re confident liaising with all levels of seniority and navigating cultural differences.
  • Good IT and data analysis skills using MS Excel and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Degree / Masters / PhD level qualification in a life science, biochemistry, pharmacy, chemistry, biomedical science or other technical scientific discipline.

    The Rewards:
