We are excited to offer an excellentopportunity for a Senior Analytical Technologist to join ourInvestigational Analysis team at the Technology Centre inPangbourne, UK. The Investigational Analysis (IA) team is part ofthe Applied Science and Technology group within Technology. Theteam brings in-depth technical expertise across various analyticaldisciplines to offer a forensic troubleshooting service at themolecular and structural chemistry level, spanning organic,inorganic, and physical chemistry. By combining detailed chemicalanalysis with materials science knowledge, the team delivers bothrapid and conclusive solutions, protecting the business and drivingproduct advancement. This role, reporting to the DisciplineManagement Lead for Investigational Analysis, is ideal forcandidates with a background in mass spectrometry andchromatography, enhancing the team’s existing technical strengths.Key Responsibilities: - Ensure safe and compliant operations,fostering a proactive safety culture through adherence to bp’s HSSEstandards, values, and behaviors. - Apply expertise in analyticalscience and groundbreaking techniques to perform analytical testingand method development, addressing complex problems across variousbusiness areas, with a particular focus on mass spectrometry andchromatography. - Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skillsand attention to detail in equipment operation, methodology, laboperations, and safety. - Organize and motivate oneself toefficiently deliver high-quality analytical data in response tospecific and unique queries or problems. - Collaborate withinternal partners, delivering timely test results andinterpretations. - Safely operate, calibrate, develop methods for,maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation. - Own andrefine analytical techniques for the team, offering boththeoretical and practical guidance, and coaching colleagues. -Identify and implement improvements in efficiency and effectivenesswithin your responsibilities. - Collaborate with management todevelop and implement the analytical strategic plan for your team,aligning with the global analytical function. What do we want tosee from you! - A degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry (ora related scientific field) and/or laboratory experience. - Provenexperience in an analytical chemistry laboratory, either inacademic or industry settings. - Self-motivated with the ability towork independently and in an agile manner, while also being astrong team player. - Skilled in engaging with various technicalstakeholders to understand their needs, define the problem, andpropose solutions. - Able to plan and execute analyses, presentingtechnical information clearly to diverse stakeholders. - Provenexpertise in analytical problem-solving. - Specialized knowledge inseparation science, particularly Mass Spectrometry andChromatography (liquid, gas, and gel permeation chromatography).Familiarity with other chromatography techniques such as IonChromatography, as well as analytical techniques like InfraredSpectroscopy, would be advantageous. - Digital proficiency ininformatics, data management, processing, and visualization tools,with knowledge of programming being a plus. - Familiarity withtesting lubricant or thermal management fluids is a benefit. -Experience with agile methodologies and working in agile teams(e.g., scrums) would be advantageous.
