Position:Senior Scientific Engagement and Program Manager

Contract Duration:6 months

Location:Remote

Rate:£550/day (based on experience)

IR35 Status:Outside IR35

Role Overview:

The Senior Scientific Engagement and Program Manager will collaborate closely with Group and Team Leads to manage and execute scientific engagements for assigned projects, programs, brands, and therapeutic areas (TAs). This role is pivotal in aligning scientific engagement activities with organizational objectives and ensuring successful delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary Point of Contact:Serve as the main contact for assigned programs, projects, brands, TAs, and publication plans.
  • End-to-End Delivery:Lead the complete delivery process for scientific engagements, including congresses, symposia, advisory boards, platforms, and medical education events.
  • Stakeholder Management:Act as the relationship manager for assigned TAs and brands, collaborating with Group and Team Leads.
  • Meeting Leadership:Facilitate colleague meetings and ensure clear, frequent communication.
  • Proactive Recommendations:Provide insightful and compelling recommendations on scientific engagements.
  • Documentation:Ensure timely and accurate documentation and correspondence.
  • Briefing:Keep Group and Team Leads informed about assigned activities.
  • Authority and Advice:Serve as a point of authority and source of advice for colleagues.
  • Project Evaluation:Assess individual projects against briefs and maintain accurate files and reports.
  • Project Reconciliation:Regularly reconcile projects and maintain accurate records of billable work.
  • Forecasting:Provide accurate forecasting of assigned activities to Group Leads.
  • Budget Planning:Assist with budget planning and forecasting for assigned brands within a franchise or group of aligned TAs.
  • Vendor Management:Lead project teams and manage external vendors for scientific engagements and medical communication deliverables.
  • Mentorship:Set clear direction, priorities, and mentor staff for improved performance.
  • Innovation:Promote best practices and innovation across MKS teams, supporting new approaches for medical communication deliverables.
  • Compliance:Ensure adherence to compliance-related activities and approvals.
  • Professional Image:Maintain a credible and positive professional image both internally and externally.
  • Leadership:Demonstrate leadership and mentorship within the team.


Ideal Candidate Profile:

Education:

  • University degree, ideally in science. Further education is desirable.

Experience:

  • 2 to 5 years in medical communications within an agency or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record in leading scientific engagements.
  • High experience in digital solutions and innovation.
  • Openness to piloting new ideas.
  • Experience in a cross-cultural work environment.

Languages:

  • Fluent in English (oral and written). Proficiency in an additional language is desirable.

Competencies:

  • Ability to co-lead project teams of moderate complexity.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and action-oriented approach.
  • Business acumen to relate activities to business strategy and policies.
  • Comfort in interacting with higher management.
  • Effective communication to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Experience in project-level management and mentorship.
  • Facilitation skills for successful meeting outcomes.
  • Extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry and ability to build deep knowledge of at least one therapy area.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for managing relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills, including delivering scientific content.
