Project Manager - Process Engineering

Senior Process Engineer required for a manufacturer of Pharmaceutical Equipment based in Liverpool. The Senior Process Engineer will have expertise in powder handling, sterilization (SIP), aseptic manufacturing, filtration, pressure vessel safety, process control, and containment technologies. This role will involve designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting pharmaceutical manufacturing processes while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and client specifications / processes.

Senior Process Engineer Job Overview

Conduct pressure vessel safety relief calculations (nozzle sizing) and pipe sizing.
Optimize filtration processes, including filter dryers, filtration rates, and theory applications.
Apply thermodynamics principles for temperature control unit (TCU) specifications.
Specify and validate pumps, valves, and process control instruments for different applications.
Implement freeze drying (lyophilization) techniques and monitor process efficiency.
Ensure processes meet Occupational Exposure Band (OEB) levels for operator protection.
Collaborate with vendors and contractors to ensure equipment meets process and regulatory requirements.
Drive process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability.
Develop equipment URS (User Requirement Specifications), FAT/SAT (Factory & Site Acceptance Tests).
Support and fine-tune PID loops for valve control and automation. Working with control engineers to optimise PID loops.
Optimize negative pressure control systems for containment applications.
Work with control / software engineers to integrate process controls into manufacturing systems.

Senior Process Engineer Job Requirements

Bachelor's or master's degree in chemical / Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Significant experience in pharmaceutical process engineering or related industries.
Strong expertise in powder handling, filtration, SIP/aseptic processing, and freeze drying.
Advanced knowledge of process control theory (PID loops, valve automation, and instrumentation).
Proficiency in pressure vessel design, safety relief calculations, and thermodynamics.
Familiarity with containment strategies, negative pressure control, and OEB classifications.
Experience specifying pumps, valves, and temperature control units (TCUs).
Knowledge of piping design and CFD (computational fluid dynamics)
Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset.
Excellent project management and leadership skills.
Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Senior Process Engineer Salary & Benefits

Salary dependent on experience £55k-£60k

Flexible starts and finished 7.5 hours per day plus 30 minutes lunch

1pm finish Fridays

Wednesday and Fridays from home

4% pension

  • 25 days holiday plus BH

  • RAC cover

  • Death in Service (x4)

  • Income protection (long term sickness cover essentially)
