The opportunity
Our client is currently seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to help support a major pharmaceutical end client based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. This position is offered on behalf of our client, a well-established engineering consultancy that operates a satellite design office located within the gates of the pharmaceutical facility. This is an onsite role, offering the opportunity to work closely with project stakeholders on a prestigious and high-value engineering programme.

Location: Macclesfield, Cheshire
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 per annum, depending on experience
Benefits: £425 per month car allowance

Your duties and responsibilities will be

Project Planning & Scheduling

Develop, review, and maintain detailed project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6 and MS Project.
Break down project scopes into actionable tasks, deliverables, and dependencies to ensure accurate sequencing.
Conduct Material Take Offs (MTOs) from drawings to determine required man-hours.
Prepare baseline schedules incorporating project scope, deadlines, resource requirements, and constraints.
Align schedules with budgets and project milestones.Resource Planning

Evaluate requirements for manpower, equipment, and materials across all project phases.
Manage resource loading within schedules to ensure effective deployment.
Liaise with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely material deliveries.Progress Monitoring & Reporting

Monitor ongoing project progress and identify deviations from the plan.
Regularly update schedules and generate status reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Develop trackers and reporting tools to clearly demonstrate performance against plans.
Produce Progress Reports, S-curves, and productivity metrics in client-agreed formats.
Track expended hours to assess performance and cost efficiency.Coordination & Communication

Collaborate with project managers, site teams, contractors, and clients to ensure schedule alignment.
Attend site and progress meetings to gather updates and address planning concerns.
Communicate schedule changes promptly to all relevant stakeholders.Risk & Change Management

Identify schedule-related risks and delays with potential project impacts.
Develop and integrate mitigation and contingency strategies within the schedule.
Respond proactively to scope, timeline, or resource changes.Software & Tools

Utilise project planning software (Primavera P6, MS Project, Excel, or equivalents) proficiently.
Maintain accurate schedule updates and perform critical path and float analysis.
Ensure planning tools are leveraged to provide accurate forecasting and monitoring.Cost & Budget Integration

Ensure schedules support overall financial targets and cost controls.
Adjust plans as needed to improve cost efficiency without compromising project integrity.You will have the following qualifications and experience 
3–5+ years’ experience in construction planning and scheduling.
Strong command of scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
In-depth understanding of construction methodologies and industry best practices.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Highly organised with strong time-management abilities.
Analytical and problem-solving mindset, with a focus on risk mitigation.
Familiarity with cost control and resource management processes.It's great if you also have the following
Experience working within highly regulated sectors such as pharmaceuticals, biotech, or life sciences.
Exposure to BIM (Building Information Modelling) tools.
Background in large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects.
Awareness of industry health & safety regulations and quality standardsWorking Conditions
40 hours per week.
Based onsite in Macclesfield, Cheshire, within a major pharmaceutical facility.
Working closely with an engineering consultancy’s onsite design office.
May require occasional travel to other project locations.
Flexibility with working hours to accommodate project demands.
