About the role

We are seeking a talented, motivated individual to join theLeicester Lifestyle and Health Research group(LLHRG), part of the Diabetes Research Centre (DRC) and Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC), within the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre. The group investigates how 24-hour lifestyle behaviours—such as physical activity, sedentary behaviour, sleep, and nutrition—can be optimized to prevent and manage obesity and long-term conditions like type 2 diabetes in multi-ethnic populations.

The successful candidate will be based at the Leicester Diabetes Centre (Leicester General Hospital), renowned for research in obesity, diabetes, and other long-term conditions, hosting the BRC Lifestyle Theme. The LLHRG has recently received a £14M investment from Research England to expand its work until 2029, making this a key role in supporting that growth.

The BRC Lifestyle Theme manages advanced clinical research facilities, including a state-of-the-art exercise laboratory, with a team of exercise physiologists, research technicians, and support staff to conduct exercise testing, training, and cardiometabolic health assessments.

The post involves working within a multidisciplinary research team, collaborating with clinical and non-clinical academics, technical staff, research managers, and administrators to deliver clinical research trials. The focus will be on projects related to physical activity and exercise in preventing and managing cardiometabolic conditions.

About you

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, hardworking, and enthusiastic, with expertise in exercise/fitness testing and training. They will lead the delivery of high-quality research services, ensuring patient care aligns with research protocols and ICH-GCP guidelines.

Excellent communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, manage time effectively, and prioritize workload are essential. Flexibility, precision, and the ability to work under pressure are also required.
