Job Purpose

Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the Scientist will support the Reaction Class Expansion and Reaction Class Validation projects in efficiently executing strategic research and development experiments. The Scientist’s main task is to utilise Chemify’s Platform to create and maintain an industry-leading data set of reaction processes, conditions and results for the broadest possible range of chemical space. To use data to identify need for new functionality, to ensure high-quality, reproducible, high-throughput and safe chemical manufacturing.

The Scientist will be exposed to and learn to operate a breadth of cutting-edge technologies in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.

The ideal candidate will be a smart, enthusiastic, energetic, and ambitious individual excited to wear many hats and contribute to the overall success of the company in a variety of capacity as the needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee research experiments on Chemify’s automated chemistry platform, both gram-scale and high-throughput
  • Review analytical data, identify trends and summarise findings
  • Work with colleagues in Software to identify improvement opportunities in platform tools
  • Work with colleagues in Hardware to specify highest priority improvements
  • Collaboration with multi-disciplinary team to solve complex technical problems

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree (BSc or MSc) in Chemistry
  • PhD in Chemistry or equivalent (3-4 years) industrial experience
  • Strong synthetic organic background
  • Familiarity with common chemical industry software tools (ChemDraw, MestreNova, Reaxys etc.)
  • Oral and written communication skills (English fluency)

Location

This role will be based at the company’s new manufacturing site at OakBank Industrial Estate, Garscube Road, Glasgow, G20 7LU.

It is anticipated that a period of initial training will take place at the company’s headquarters in the Advanced Research Centre, 11 Chapel Lane, Glasgow, G11 6EW.
