About Our Team
We are looking for a dynamic scientist to join the Cell Reports Medicine editorial team and to work with the broader Cell Press Life and Health Science portfolios as a joint member of the Research Integrity and Author Experience team . This joint role is an exciting opportunity to engage with and shape the research that Cell Reports Medicine publishes, while also working more broadly across journals to innovate within the publishing and peer review process,with flexible work arrangements considered. We welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in the life and health sciences or an MD with research experience.
About The Role
You will engage with Cell Reports Medicine, a premium open access journal at Cell Press, publishing cutting edge and impactful work from across the spectrum of translation and clinical research. The Scientific Editor will be closely involved in all editorial aspects of the journal and the peer review process. You will recruit exciting studies, assess submitted research papers, write and edit content for the Cell Reports Medicine journal homepage and social media outlets, and play an active role in the development and implementation of journal strategy. Additionally, you will work on cross-journal projects and initiatives, coordinating closely with authors and editors to optimize overall publishing success across our portfolio of biomedical and life science journals. You will also travel to scientific conferences, research institutes and hospitals to build global relationships with experts in the community to disseminate and discuss practice-changing results from the field.

Responsibilities:
Recruiting exciting content.

Assessing and curating scientific content for the most appropriate audiences.

Selecting and collaborating with referees.

Engaging closely with authors throughout the review process and providing outstanding author service.

Commissioning and editing Review and Perspective articles, as well as other front matter for Cell Reports Medicine.

Improving on the editorial process for editors and reviewers.

Offering authors guidance and ensuring a smooth overall experience for authors who submit to our journals.

Developing and supporting journal strategy, including supporting the development of strong links between the developing network of Cell Press open access journals.

Requirements:
PhD or MD in a relevant life scientific or clinical discipline.

Previous editorial experience is desirable but not required.

Broad scientific interests, a desire to learn, and the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues. As a scientific editor, you will need to develop an understanding of the diverse areas covered by Cell Reports Medicine, as well as be open to exciting emerging topics.

Strong ability to communicate clearly, with an interest in science communication and publishing trends

The ability to work successfully both independently and in diverse global teams.

Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with a collaborative problem-solving mindset.

Proven strong and global research networks and connections.

The ability to organize, prioritize, and focus to achieve overall team goals

Be creative and willing to experiment and have a desire to improve on existing workflows to enhance author service and our strong commitment to quality science
