Responsibilities / Position overview

We are seeking an advance degree life sciences professional to join our MedComms team as Scientific Director. This role sits within our wider Medical Strategy and Communications practice which serves our clients by mobilizing our scientific knowledge to interpret the data and create compelling narratives to guide their medical strategy and through regulatory challenges.

The Scientific Director will have a strong scientific understanding and be able to translate that understanding into medical strategy and compelling scientific stories. This role is responsible for the strategic and scientific rigor of client engagements within their remit, including editorial and content quality oversight. The successful candidate will serve as an expert in the development and implementation of strategic communication plans in several therapy areas/specialisms and be able to pair their scientific acumen and eye for innovation with a commercial understanding that generate organic growth. In this leadership role, the Scientific Director will lead a team by example, ensuring the delivery of consistently high-quality and technically accurate work, manage the scientific aspects of projects and programmes of work, and own client relationships at a senior level.

The role requires a balanced ability to:

  • Provide strategic‐level input and expertise on client accounts to drive growth in existing accounts and for new business
  • Partake in the generation of new and innovative ideas based on scientific content and delivery, to broaden the offerings of the medical strategy and communications practice and ensure we keep pace with the changing environment
  • Build team culture and capability through role‐model leadership, delegation and solid guidance on project delivery, using scientific leadership to drive exceptional standards and team excellence
  • Manage scientific teams and delivers to innovative programmes with integrity, and lead scientific excellence and quality, through direction, guidance and training

Qualifications

  • Life science degree or higher, PhD in a relevant subject preferred
  • Extensive healthcare agency experience in a scientific and strategic capacity, preferably at Scientific Director level
  • Experience of developing medical strategy in a business development capacity
  • Previous experience as a medical writer in an agency or pharmaceutical environment
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to effectively lead by example and through coaching and mentorship
  • Strong analytical skills, a problem-solving mind-set and the ability to think critically and creatively
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with a high aptitude for scientific story telling
  • Excellent organisational skills and an ability to juggle several responsibilities, accounts and projects, manage incoming workload effectively and maintain standards of excellence
