We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Research Team as a Protein Analyst with a focus on mass spectrometry to provide high-quality timely and accurate analyses of protein peptide and other samples as provided with a view to advising the direction of research projects and driving them forward.

The Details...

This role will principally be laboratory-based to begin with and analyses will be split approximately 50:50 between mass spectrometry and other analyses. The role expects significant collaboration with other teams and projects with the central aim of accelerating research and development of Oxford Nanopore products.

The successful candidate will have good laboratory skills reliability in bench-based practical work and the ability to carry out sophisticated and routine tasks with equal attention to detail and thoroughness.

Applications are encouraged from candidates who can adapt quickly to new challenges and enjoy working with an agile approach to research. The successful candidate will need to work meticulously to a high standard and be able to perform well under pressure to meet deadlines in a demanding and fast-paced environment.

What Were Looking For...

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant subject.
  • Experience working with ESI mass spectrometry equipment.
  • Experience with protein sample preparation methods including solid phase extraction HPLC buffer exchange methods.
  • The ability to use mass spectrometry software for the analysis of protein digest samples including proteomics and modification mapping and to run pre-existing LC-MS methods.
  • Experience preparing mass spectrometry compatible samples.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Previous experience with Waters Q-ToF instruments including preventative and reactive maintenance
  • Experience in software requirements for Q-Tof instruments specifically Waters instruments.
  • Experience with oligonucleotide (DNA and RNA) sample preparation methods.
  • Experience with small molecule mass spectrometry.
  • The ability to develop new LC separation methods over a range of chemistries.
  • The ability to develop new mass spectrometry methods for the analysis of proteins peptides and small molecules.
