Looking to develop or expand your career into regulatory risk assessment?Cambridge Environmental Assessments (CEA,part of theRSK Group)is looking for aRegulatory Ecotoxicologiston afull-time or part-time, permanentbasis. We are based in Boxworth,Cambridgehowever as the business has offices throughout the UK, we are happy to considerhybrid or fully remote working, depending on candidate preference.

As a Regulatory Ecotoxicologist, you will join our established risk assessment team in delivering ecotoxicological risk assessments for plant protection products and other chemicals, with an emphasis on higher tier solutions and novel approaches. CEA specialise in higher-tier risk assessments, developing novel solutions for complex risk assessment problems. For more information about CEA visit https://www.cea.adas.co.uk/ .

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as an ecotoxicology risk assessment specialist for agrochemical and other projects, including the development and delivery of higher tier approaches for non-target organism risk assessments.
  • Keep up to date with ever evolving regulations.
  • Work collaboratively within the team, and across other teams in CEA (e.g., E-fate and exposure, toxicology) to produce high quality work in an inclusive atmosphere. Peer review colleagues’ work and provide useful and constructive feedback.
  • Review data such as published or non-published experimental data. Process data in an appropriate manner. Draw logical and scientifically supported conclusions from available data. Write clear and accessible reports conveying information in a logical manner.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients and attend conferences, webinars, or events, collaborating with regulators, industry, and/or academia.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in performing regulatory ecotoxicological risk assessments, ideally gained within industry, consultancy, or a regulatory agency.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks in the EU and/or GB.

Applicants with experience of one or more of the below points would be well suited to this position.

  • Experience with key EFSA Guidance Documents, such as the Bird and Mammal Guidance Document, the Guidance on the risk assessment of plant protection products on bees and the Guidance on tiered risk assessment for plant protection products for aquatic organisms in edge-of-field surface waters
  • The application of these guidance documents at any tier of risk assessment
  • Knowledge and/or experience with higher tier study designs, such as performing, designing, or monitoring GLP studies, e.g., field studies, multiple species studies, modified exposure studies, mesocosm studies.
  • Project management experience

  • The ability to interpret scientific data and apply it in a regulatory context.
  • An eye for detail with good critical thinking skills.
  • Flexible and a willingness to learn innovative approaches.
  • A high standard of written English and ability to communicate complex concepts in an accessible manner.
  • Excellent time management skills and able to work on multiple projects.
  • Effective communication skills and a team player.

Cambridge Environmental Assessments (CEA), part of ADAS (an RSK company), provides novel solutions for an increasingly demanding regulatory world. We provide chemical regulatory support using non-standard approaches to toxicology or ecotoxicity testing, alternative testing approaches, non-standard exposure modelling and risk assessments.
