Company Description

Since 2011, we’ve had a clear mission: money without borders. Built by and for people who live global lives, we’re the fairest, easiest way to manage your money across borders.

We’re just at the beginning of our story and we’re growing at an incredible pace. We won’t stop until anyone, anywhere can send, spend and receive money wherever they are, whatever they’re doing. There’s still heaps to do and we can’t do it alone.

We’re looking for a Compliance Manager to support our UK Electronic Money Institution (EMI) business and scale our Wise Account and supporting payments products.

Based in London, you will work with a growing team of multidisciplinary specialists (Risk, Legal, Product, Treasury, Security, marketing) across the globe. You’ll help manage and strengthen the team’s approach to managing the regulatory risks, their governance and oversight.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Advise the business on regulatory requirements related to our UK Payments and Investment products.
  2. Handle escalations from first line product teams including check and challenge of regulatory analysis provided by our first line product compliance teams.
  3. Support first line to identify relevant regulatory risks.
  4. Review regulatory changes applicable to our business.
  5. Draft regulatory compliance policies.
  6. Challenge product implementation plans to ensure regulatory changes are implemented in a timely manner.
  7. Work closely with the wider regulatory team to manage our policy framework, regulatory engagement and reporting in relation to our business.
  8. Work with the first line business owners to ensure findings from audits and monitoring and testing are remediated efficiently and effectively.
  9. Provide regulatory training and self-help materials to assist the first line teams comply with regulatory obligations and compliance policies.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  1. Develop an in-depth knowledge of Wise’s business and get to know many teams across the company as you liaise with them to help them understand the regulatory framework and bring together the information that our regulators need.
  2. Help keep compliance right at the heart of our business by helping the team understand and comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
  3. Implement innovative and creative solutions with a technology and customer focused approach to help us achieve the Wise Mission.

A bit about you:

  1. Our ideal candidate will have a regulatory advisory background, great communication and organisational skills, tons of motivation and positivity. More specifically, we’re looking for someone who can demonstrate they have these attributes:
  2. Theory: Experience with regulations applicable to Payments and/or Investment businesses such as PSRs 2017 & EMRs 2011, applicable parts of the FCA handbook.
  3. Practice: Ability to conduct analysis on the UK Financial Regulations and provide comprehensive regulatory advice to the business.
  4. Passion: A problem-solver who enjoys finding innovative solutions and collaborating with different teams to deliver a mission.
  5. Get the job done: A sense of urgency and an ability to work well under pressure, prioritising, taking responsibility and communicating priorities effectively to others.
  6. Communication: A strong relationship builder across all levels of the business and externally, with the ability to influence others and empower teams to strengthen their processes to mitigate risks.
  7. Development: Consideration of the challenges and development opportunities of working at a fast-growing company.
  8. Travel: The role is London-based, but many of our teams are located across different office locations. You’ll be ready to travel if needed.

Some extra skills that would be great:

Knowledge of merchant acquiring or CASS/Safeguarding regimes would be advantageous but not essential.

What we offer in return:

Lots of awesome opportunities for everyone, everywhere. We're people building money without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We believe teams are strongest when they are diverse, equitable and inclusive.

We're proud to have a truly international team, and we celebrate our differences.
Inclusive teams help us live our values and ensure every Wiser feels respected, empowered to contribute towards our mission and able to progress in their careers.

How to Write a Biotechnology Job Ad That Attracts the Right People

Biotechnology is one of the UK’s most diverse and fast-moving sectors. From biopharma and diagnostics to industrial biotech, medtech and life sciences research, employers are competing for highly specialised talent with scarce, in-demand skills. Yet many biotechnology employers struggle with the same problem: job adverts that attract the wrong candidates. Roles are often flooded with unsuitable applications, while highly qualified scientists, engineers and regulatory professionals either do not apply or disengage early in the process. In most cases, the issue is not the talent pool — it is the job advert itself. Biotechnology professionals are trained to think critically, assess evidence and understand context. If a job ad is vague, inflated or poorly targeted, it signals a lack of clarity and credibility — and strong candidates simply move on. This guide explains how to write a biotechnology job ad that attracts the right people, improves applicant quality and positions your organisation as a serious, trustworthy employer in the life sciences sector.

Maths for Biotech Jobs: The Only Topics You Actually Need (& How to Learn Them)

Biotechnology is packed with data. Whether you are applying for roles in drug discovery, clinical research, bioprocessing, diagnostics, genomics or regulated manufacturing, you will meet numbers every day: assay readouts, QC trends, dose response curves, sequencing counts, clinical endpoints, stability profiles, validation reports & risk assessments. If you are a UK job seeker moving into biotech from another sector or you are a student in biology, biochemistry, biomedical science, pharmacy, chemistry, engineering or computer science, it is normal to worry you “do not have the maths”. What biotech roles do need is confidence with a small set of practical topics that show up again & again. This guide focuses on the only maths most biotech job adverts quietly assume: • Biostatistics basics for experiments, evidence & decision making • Probability for variability, uncertainty & risk • Linear algebra essentials for omics, PCA & modelling workflows • Calculus basics for kinetics, rates & dose response intuition • Simple optimisation for curve fitting, process set points & model tuning

Neurodiversity in Biotech Careers: Turning Different Thinking into a Superpower

Biotechnology is all about solving complex problems that affect real lives – from new medicines & vaccines to sustainable materials, diagnostics & gene therapies. To tackle those challenges, the sector needs people who think differently. That is exactly where neurodivergent talent comes in. If you have ADHD, autism, dyslexia or another form of neurodivergence, you might have been told that your brain is “too much”, “too distracted” or “too literal” for a lab or scientific career. In reality, many of the traits that come with ADHD, autism & dyslexia are perfectly suited to biotech work – from spotting subtle patterns in experimental data to creative thinking around new solutions. This guide is written for biotechnology job seekers in the UK. We will explore: What neurodiversity means in a biotech context How ADHD, autism & dyslexia strengths map onto specific biotech roles Practical workplace adjustments you can ask for under UK law How to talk about your neurodivergence in applications & interviews By the end, you will have a clearer idea of where you might thrive in biotech – & how to set up your working environment so your differences become genuine superpowers.
