Position Description

Vantage is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to be part of our design engineering team, positioned at the forefront of an exciting growth market. In this role, you will handle high-level system design, specification development, contractor management, and the transition from installation to operations. Collaboration with various teams is expected as you navigate complex engineering challenges, ensuring project standards are met and enhanced.

Your role will include evaluating designs to balance costs and managing client relationships throughout the design and construction stages. Within Vantage's collaborative environment, you'll interface with stakeholders and work closely with customer experts to shape our product offerings, transforming requirements into tangible solutions. This position will significantly contribute to Vantage's profitability and success.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead all aspects of electrical design and engineering including conceptual design, basis of design, scope of work, development of construction documents.
  • Management of external electrical engineering partners
  • Investigate new technologies, solutions, and develop value engineering opportunities for implementation on projects.
  • Drive & be accountable for project-level tasks and milestones
  • Subject matter expert responsible for technical reviews including designs, submittals, RFIs and engineering studies/assessments against business needs
  • Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings
  • Interface and manage electrical design and design-build contractors on a per-project basis
  • Report on weekly basis to the Vantage leadership on design progress, blockers, risks and assignment of priorities

Duties

  • Develop and review project specifications, schematic drawings, design documents, submittals, and commissioning scripts in partnership with internal and external design teams.
  • Develop and review the sequence of operations for all electrical systems.
  • Provide engineering oversight and review of project plans, OFCI equipment, and system submittals.
  • Help to develop minimum requirements for complete sequence of operations for all designed systems.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams across all disciplines to optimize product delivery to Operations.
  • Support Sales during customer tours, RFP responses, and customer meetings for standard and bespoke solutions.
  • Coach and help develop the career paths for junior electrical engineers.
  • Participate in project design team meetings and interface with various team members.
  • Ensure engineering standards and specifications are met during construction.
  • Conduct value engineering analysis and provide system recommendations based on ROI and IRR.
  • Review, comment on, and process project plans, actively participating in gating approvals.
  • Support Site Operations to troubleshoot and retrofit existing systems.
  • Attend and review documentation for the electrical part of project commissioning.
  • Help set standards for electrical commissioning efforts and ensure compliance on projects.
  • Provide project coordination and commission support.
  • Assist in the Vantage product development process.
  • Work closely with Operations to balance cost-effective solutions with operational sustainability.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Skills,Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college
  • 10 years of experience in electrical power design and construction required (15+ years preferred)
  • Accredited engineering credentials preferred (Chartered Engineer in EU / Professional Engineer in NA)
  • Mission Critical (Data Centers, Semiconductors, Pharmaceutical etc.) design, construction and/or customer side experience is required. (5+ years preferred)
  • Experience with EU construction markets & regulations required
  • Proficient in BlueBeam, Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Procore and/or Autodesk Construction Cloud
  • Understanding of BIM, Revit and Navisworks environments
  • Working knowledge of critical power infrastructure within a data center project from external power supply, to end circuit supply to the racks.
  • Understanding of the basics of HV/MV substations design & operations and interfaces with the Utility and individual buildings.
  • Working knowledge of all building and fire codes ordinances, including IEC standards
  • National and international travel required is expected to be 10 to 15%, but may increase over time as the business & role evolves
